He is reaching Colin Baker levels of not being the Doctor.

But then again I have been watching old Pertwee and Tom Baker episodes so I am biased.

The episode was good with the old 'killing with kindness' motif. And more importantly what can you do if The Doctor cannot help. It was an interesting idea.

Matt Smith is more of a Troughton/McCoy Doctor then he is Pertwee/Baker. But even Tom Baker had some very dark moments.

And so we have a variation on the Minotaur story. Interesting.

And we say goodbye to Amy and Rory.

Next week is James Cordon and Cybermen.

I found it interesting that the Doctor ate an apple.
Also interesting that he called her Amy Williams
I wonder if this is significant

I saw this as the Doctor helping her move on to the next chapter in her life. When they met she was Amy Pond, and all the while they have been adventuring Rpry has been following her lead (Melody Pond, Mr. & Mrs. Pond, etc.) but the Doctor was I think gently prompting her to move on and follow Rory's lead and return to a safer, normal life.

But maybe I am reading into it too much :D

Last year, we never found out how the TARDIS was destroyed on Amy's wedding day [causing the crack in time] or who was really responsible. Does anyone think we will actually get a resolution to the Doctor's death in "The Impossible Astronaut" this season? Or find out if River is in prison for killing the Doctor? Or answers to last year's big questions?

Well, that was interesting. The post script scenes revealed alot more than I would have expected for the last five minutes of a non season finale episode. I'm rather looking forward to next week now!

Hopefully the season finale will not disappoint.

BTW, anyone else wonder what happened to the dead Doctor's TARDIS?

If you love someone, set them free ... maybe he set the Tardis free? ... no?

I'll guess then that since the doctor doesn't die for real (somehow) it's going to prove a non-issue.

You'd think it would have been an issue for River. If they have to destroy his body to keep people from examining it, they sure as hell need to secure his TARDIS. I wonder if it is significant.

I think Doctor Ganger (from The Almost People) doesn't have TARDIS and it's used for this.

If we assume there is still a Doctor Ganger [and I think the Ganger thing is a misdirect as it has already been overplayed] how would it get to 21st century earth?

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that the gangers liquefied upon death?

Also do we really think that the G-Doctor could regenerate?

In this week's episode it seemed to indicate that, for the Doctor, all of those nearly 200 years discrepant between the doctor's age had taken place between the time that he said goodbye to Amy and came back to visit. Maybe that was an intentional misdirect, or maybe not.

Something that -is- clear, is that the River Song who watched the doctor get killed on the shores of Lake Silencio was an -older- version of the River Song so had just gotten her doctorate and was put into the astronaut suit. Depending on whether or not she remembered shooting the doctor future River may be playing a very very long con on the conspiracy with the Doctor's help.

Moffat is pretty skilled at weaving very complex stories, and I have no fear that things will make sense once we get them all laid out for us.

Doctor could have fetch him, or D-Ganger could build himself a time machine similar to Harkness one. I don't think the time/space barrier is too hard to cross on modern Doctor Who series, especially as G-Doctor IS basically equal to The Doctor.

Frankly I think the dialogue before G-Doctors apparent dead makes its appearance reasonably likely.

The Doctor Ganger: Well. My death arrives, I suppose.
The Doctor: But this one we're not invited to.
The Doctor Ganger: What?
The Doctor: Nothing. Your molecular memory can survive this, you know. It may not be the end.
The Doctor Ganger: Well if I turn up to nick all your biscuits then you'll know you were right, won't you.

But we will see soon enough.

Cheers

Now that is a clever way to outsmart death and a fixed point in time. Wonder what is going to happen next season. :D
