COMING SOON

I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more Gargoyles! These builds have made me nostalgic, so you get to look forward to more Gargoyles characters this week, despite what I said earlier about non-build stuff. Expect to see Bronx, Angela, Elisa, and Xanatos before I move on to something else, thus rounding out the main cast.

I just wanted to stop in and say how much I love your gargoyles builds. I know you don't plan on doing the entire cast before you go on to the next thing. But when you get back to it, I would literally cheer to see Macbeth, The Pack, and a few of Oberron's Children.

 The biological daughter of Goliath and Demona, Angela was originally thought to be a victim of the Castle Wyvern massacre, but was saved by Princess Katherine, the Magus, and Tom. Hatched and raised in Avalon, she joined Goliath and Elisa during the World Tour story arc, and later became a member of the Manhattan Clan when they returned home. For a while, the "trio" competed for her attention, before she eventually began a relationship with Broadway.

 Angela is built very similar to Brooklyn, in that she is more of a well-rounded fighter than most of the rest of the clan. Having been raised in Avalon, she has higher Expertise: Magical Lore than most of the rest of the clan, and she gets the Attractive advantage considering how much attention she got from the boys.

Whoa, there! Nice doggy. Good doggy...gargoyle...whatever...

Bronx - PL 7

Abilities
Strength 5, Stamina 6, Agility 4, Dexterity 2, Fighting 5, Intellect -4, Awareness 2, Presence -2

Advantages
All-out Attack, Benefit: Can use Fast Grab with trip instead of unarmed attack, Close Attack 3, Evasion, Fast Grab, Great Endurance, Improved Hold, Improved Initiative, Improved Trip, Instant Up, Move-by Action, Power Attack, Startle

Skills
Athletics 4 (+9), Intimidation 9 (+7), Perception 4 (+6), Stealth 2 (+6)

Powers
Gargoyle Beast Physiology - Features 1 (Longevity) Senses 4 (Darkvision, Acute Smell, Tracking: Smell), Speed 3, Protection 1
Claws - Strength-based Damage 1, Penetrating 6; Movement 1 (Wall-crawling)

Offense
Initiative +8
Claws: Close +8, Damage 6

Complications
Beastly: Unlike the other gargoyles, Bronx is not humanoid and in many ways is like a dog. He is quadrepedal, lacking hands or an upright stature, and cannot speak. He does not appear to be sentient, also possessing a dog-like mind.
Prejudice: Of the few who know of the gargoyles' existence, most look upon them with contempt and fear.
Stone Sleep: When the sun rises, gargoyles are enter a deep sleep and petrify, appearing to be nothing more than stone statues. Although this allows them to recover from any wounds they may have, they are vulnerable and unware while in in this condition.

Defense
Dodge 7, Parry 7, Fortitude 7, Toughness 7, Will 4

Power Points
Abilities 36 + Powers 17 + Advantages 15 + Skills 10 (19 ranks) + Defenses 8 = 86

 Bronx is the Manhattan Clan's pet...gargoyle...dog-thing. EDIT: Apparently, as people have informed me, Bronx is a "garg-beast," a weird evoluntionary offshoot of the gargoyle race. It didn't really come up a lot in the show, but there you have it.

 At first, I was going to make Bronx a Sidekick, but the question was, WHOSE Sidekick. Goliath is the leader of the clan, so probably him. But no, up until the World Tour, Bronx spent most of his time with Hudson. Maybe he should be Hudson's sidekick. But that didn't feel right either, so maybe each of the clan should have a point of Sidekick, sort of like shared Equipment Points to build an HQ. That sounded good, but didn't add up right. Finally, I just decided to do him as a seperate entity, and forget about the whole Sidekick thing.

Bronx gets Improved Trip and a Benefit allowing him to use Fast Grab with a trip attempt instead of a standard attack. This refelcts his favored tactic of leaping onto an enemy to knock them down, then pinning them by standing on their chest and snarling in their face. He also gets Senses like a dog, as I'm pretty sure that on at least one occasion, he sniffed out an enemy or lead the team needed to find, just like a bloodhound. Bronx doesn't get Wall-Crawling from his claws simply because I don't remember him ever climbing anything with them like the gargoyles does. I would presume his canine-like physiology doesn't have the coordination.

Elisa Maza

Postby Dark Koala » Sun Oct 16, 2011 11:48 am

Image
Talk about New York City's finest. Amiright?

Elisa Maza - PL 6

Abilities
Strength 1, Stamina 2, Agility 2, Dexterity 4, Fighting 3, Intellect 2, Awareness 2, Presence 2

Advantages
Accurate Attack, All-out Attack, Attractive, Benefit: Officer of the law, Connected, Defensive Attack, Defensive Roll 2, Equipment 4, Evasion, Improved Aim, Improved Initiative, Luck, Quick Draw, Set-up

Skills
Athletics 3 (+4), Close Combat: Unarmed 4 (+7), Deception 5 (+7), Expertise: Police Procedure 6 (+8), Insight 5 (+7), Investigation 8 (+10), Perception 5 (+7), Persuasion 5 (+7), Ranged Combat: Firearms 4 (+8), Stealth 2 (+4), Vehicles 2 (+6)

Equipment
Handcuffs, Heavy Pistol, Police Cruiser (car with police band radio and lights/siren)

Offense
Initiative +6
Heavy Pistol: Ranged +8, Damage 4
Unarmed: Close +7, Damage 1

Complications
Enemy: Elisa has mad her share of enemy's while trying to keep the streets of New York clean, not the least of which include mob boss Tony Dracon.
Relationship: Elisa's relationship with the Goliath is complicated, and lies somewhere inbetween strong friendship and "something more."
Responsibility: Elisa is an member of the New York Police Department, with all of the responsibilities that entails.

Defense
Dodge 7, Parry 7, Fortitude 5, Toughness 4/2, Will 7

Power Points
Abilities 36 + Powers 0 + Advantages 18 + Skills 25 (49 ranks) + Defenses 17 = 96

 A member of the New York Police Department and one of the first humans the clan met, Elisa has been the Manhattan Clan's closest ally throughout the series. Indeed, despite being a human, she is often considered a member of the clan.

 Elisa adds a strong female element to a most male cast without being forced into the role of "the chick." She is an exceptionally competant detective and no slouch when it comes to combat. Although not quite on par with the gargoyles, Elisa holds her own against any normal human. Her real value, however, is her skill set. With high ranks in skills like Insight, Perception, and Investigation, Elisa is usually the one who figures out what's going on and helps the gargoyles figure out what it is they need to do. She gets the Attractive feat because her good looks are commented on several times throughout the series.

David Xanatos

Postby Dark Koala » Sun Oct 16, 2011 11:49 am

Image
Xanatos Gambit: Heads I win, tails you lose.

David Xanatos - PL 7

Abilities
Strength 2, Stamina 2, Agility 2, Dexterity 2, Fighting 4, Intellect 6, Awareness 4, Presence 5

Advantages
Accurate Attack, All-out Attack, Assessment, Attractive, Benefit, Wealth 5 (billionare), Benefit: Member of the Illuminati, Connected, Contacts, Daze (Deception), Defensive Attack, Defensive Roll 3, Eidetic Memory, Equipment 9, Inventor, Jack-of-all-trades, Power Attack, Ritualist, Seize Initiative, Sidekick 4, Speed of Thought, Well-informed

Skills
Close Combat: Unarmed 5 (+9), Deception 10 (+15), Expertise: Business & Economics 6 (+12), Expertise: Magical Lore 5 (+11), Expertise: Psychology 5 (+11), Insight 8 (+12), Perception 4 (+8), Persuasion 6 (+11), Ranged Combat: Firearms 4 (+6), Technology 7 (+13), Vehicles 4 (+6)

Equipment
Blaster Rifle, Cell Phone, Headquarters (Eyrie Building), 5 points of miscellaneous equipment

Offense
Initiative +6
Blaster Rifle: Ranged +6, Damage 8
Unarmed: Close +9, Damage 2

Defense
Dodge 9, Parry 9, Fortitude 6, Toughness 5/2, Will 8

Power Points
Abilities 54 + Powers 0 + Advantages 38 + Skills 32 (64 ranks) + Defenses 20 = 144

 A self-made (technically) multi-millionaire, owner and CEO of Xanatos Enterprises. Xanatos purchased Castle Wyvern and had it reassembled atop the Eyrie Building specifically to break the curse on the gargoyles. Xanatos has repeatedly worked with and against the gargoyles, usually using them to further some agenda and almost always coming out on top, despite whatever successes the Manhattan clan may achieve.

 Holy crap. Despite being two whole power levels lower than Goliath, Xanatos is more expensive. And that's WITHOUT his Steel Clan armor. It should hardly be a surprise, however--David Xanatos is easily one of the most competant villains of all time.

In many ways, Xanatos is a lower level version of Lex Luthor, but Gargoyles is a lower power level world, and if anything, Xanatos is a better Luthor than Luthor himself. He has virtually limitless resources, but his greatest asset is his mind--he plans things out better than Light Yagami, and his foes are nowhere near his equal. Xanatos is also a decent martial artist, enough to earn him the four trade-off Advantages, though he's only a real threat to the gargoyles in his Steel Clan Armor.

This build assumes that Owen is still Owen, and that his powers as Puck are still sealed. I didn't actually stat Owen up because, frankly, I'm lazy and didn't feel like it, but he's basically just a personal assistant and isn't of much use in combat. He's basically like Xanatos's own personal Alfred Pennyworth.

David Xanatos (Steel Clan Armor)

Steel Clan Armor: For when being an unbeatable billionaire genius just isn't enough.

Xanatos (Steel Clan) - PL 9

Abilities
Strength 2/8, Stamina 2, Agility 2, Dexterity 2, Fighting 4, Intellect 6, Awareness 4, Presence 5

Advantages
Accurate Attack, All-out Attack, Assessment, Attractive, Benefit, Wealth 5 (billionare), Benefit: Member of the Illuminati, Connected, Contacts, Daze (Deception), Defensive Attack, Defensive Roll 3, Eidetic Memory, Equipment 9, Improved Critical 2: Strength-based Damage 1, Inventor, Jack-of-all-trades, Power Attack, Ritualist, Seize Initiative, Sidekick 4, Speed of Thought, Well-informed

Powers
Stee Clan Armor - Removeable
Arm Blaster - Ranged Damage 10, Accurate
Armor - Protection 4, Impervious Toughness 9
Claws - Strength-based Damage 1, Penetrating 8, Improved Critical 2; Movement (Wall-Crawling)
Sensors - Senses 3 (Infrafvision, Radio, Tracking 2: Radar)
Servo Motors - Enhanced Strength 6
Wings & Jetpack - Flight 5

Equipment
Blaster Rifle, Cell Phone, Headquarters (Eyrie Building), 5 points of miscellaneous equipment

Offense
Initiative +6
Arm Blaster: Ranged +8, Damage 10
Blaster Rifle: Ranged +6, Damage 8
Claws: Close +9, Damage 9
Unarmed: Close +9, Damage 2

Defense
Dodge 9, Parry 9, Fortitude 6, Toughness 5/9, Will 8

Power Points
Abilities 54 + Powers 54 + Advantages 38 + Skills 32 (64 ranks) + Defenses 20 = 198

 The exact same David Xanatos, but now with POWER ARMOR. Presented here as a seperate build, since the armor wasn't used very often, but definitely was worth mentioning.

 And so, Xanatos can now go toe-to-toe with even Goliath in physical combat. Note that Steel Clan Armor actually gives Xanatos abilities slightly better than the gargoyles--he has real flight for example, rather than gliding, his claws are sharper and have more Penetrating and Improved Crit, and his Toughness is Impervious. You do not want to mess with this guy.

Ah. I guess I just don't remember that. It has been a while since I've watched the series all the way through.

Considering the overwhelming number of people that seem to want to see MacBeth (which is to say, two including yourself), I think I'll go ahead and put him on the short list. The Pack will probably have to wait a little while, though. I might do a few of Oberron's Children after I watch the series again (which is being facilitated by the magic of NetFlix), although Oberron himself is pretty much off-limits. He's what 2E would call a Power Level X character, a living plot device whose stats are irrelevant because he does whatever the GM says he can do.

Well it took the Gargoyles, Puck, Fox, Xanatos, all the steel clan robots, plus Fox's fathers flying fortress to even slow Oberon.

In regards to Bronx he can wall crawl like the others and has donme so on multiple occasions. one most prominently in the episode with the banshee during the world tour arc he climbs out fo a sheer sided cliff with the hero Cu Culhain on his back.
Dr. Silverback has wryly observed that this is like trying to teach lolcats about Shakespeare

Just wanted to say that is one awesome Xanatos build DK. That power armor of his almost makes him the physical equal of Goliath. The Pack and Macbeth would be nice to see.

Great Xanatos! When you need a morally ambiguous Tony Stark without resorting to bad writing.
