Comic convention/Earth 53

Big Industry DC, takes advantage of rise of new super powered individuals. Hiring super powered PCs to play as the title roles, while increasing sales of the comics. This will be more or less based on the Paragons Universe, except the PCs have a unified origin for their powers. Their powers are real, and close enough that you are hired by DC characters, ranging from the famous such as Superman, Martian Manhunter, Flash to lesser known such as Etrigan, Ambush Bug or Firestorm. But just because you dress like that character means your powers are identical-or your personality either.

For example: You could be playing batman, however, you actually have enhanced superhuman powers with sensitive raccoon senses. But with some grappling hooks, and smoke grenades you barely know how to use, you can pass for him.

Or, you could be playing the Flash, however you are neither happy nor go-lucky. Methodical, devious, and without the mask look a bit like Lex Luthor. However, thanks to the catch phrases written by your special team of writers, the public will never know that!

The most drastic one could be where your playing Green arrow, or a different promiscuous superhero/ine (I know he got married, but he did get around for a large portion of his life). Thus the fact your PC is married in real life, or gay, is kept on the down low by DCs media department. Although your PC might not consider that very 'PC'. Get it? :D anyway, moving on.

All the PCs though must belong to the same comic company. However, all the comic companies exist in this universe, so you may find you are only the first group of comic copy cats. JLA + Avengers versus the B.P.R.D and WildC.A.T.s anyone?

The game is 2E, and the starting PL will be 9, representing minimal training, gadgets/wealth. You just started working for DC as a super hero. I plan to advance this to PL10 fairly quickly, and eventually PL11.

You happy with DC being the company hiring you, or do you have a different preference, such as Image or Marvel?

I would say go with DC. Even with the recent popularity of Marvel Comics based movie, the DC heroes are more well known and instantly identifiable.
Life is what happens while I am busy gaming.
I use DCA, unless I state otherwise, all my posts are for DCA. I assume that 3ed is the same, but might be wrong in specific areas.

Alright so I guess I should ask, are there any questions about either concept?

I guess you should be a little more precise about CC. What are we doing with the DC licenses? Working for Vanguard, FC, etc.?

As a suggestion from the Paragons book states:

"With the decline in popularity of fictional superhumans, major comic book publishers have hit upon a new idea: Licensing their properties to real, living paranormals! After all, if you were a paragon with amazing athletic abilities and the power to stick to walls, would you rather build up your own “brand identity” or associate yourself with one of the most famous in the world? The idea has proven popular and has the potential to tremendously revitalize existing comic properties, while bringing in considerable licensing income. There remain some concerns over finding just the right “fit” for an existing character identity and just how much (if at all) such characters should be tailored to their new “wearers."

You guys are hired basically as part sponsored hero, part product placement. You guys will be registered as an official hero fighting crime, "because that's what DC heroes are all about", the tagline says. However, you will also be working with a publicity department, who will try and convince you to 'act in a certain manner because your comic character just lost his girlfriend' or 'appeal to a certain demographic'. Vanguard is aware of you, and looks at you as at best wannabees, or at worse an unregulated threat. You are not under ownership by any government-however, you know you could lose the rights to your identity (and paycheck) if you step out of line too often. you know, unless your playing Batman while he's going through an Iron Age story. However, even then, if your too cheerful, you could be penalized.

Basically, you suffer the same editorial torture your favorite characters go through-but your allowed to complain about it. I'll do my best to avoid clone sagas, and Wars can't be secret if anyone can buy them in a comic book store. Unlike the comics though-people do stay dead in the real world.

Be sure to read the first post, where I have edited in some examples of how your character can be different from the guy/girl he is portraying.

Yeah, I'm thinking Captain Atom, a young man who is only in it for the buck (to support his family, being a teenage father). He dislikes soldier-speak and comic superheroes too. Incidentally, he is a childhood friend of Travis Hawk (aka Vector).

Power-set: Energy Absorption, Flight, Radiation Control, Immunity: Life Support, and Force Field.

Hmm, interresting. That helps connect the DC team with the Vanguard team. They are on officially unfreindly terms-it will be fun to see how Vector's old friendship will affect the two teams.

You don't like Soldier-speak or Comic Superheroes? Oh you are going to hate the publicity department for DC. I'm loving this concept!

I wonder if it's just a weekend thing, but there doesn't seem to be that many people into this idea. Oh well, the game won't start until January at the earliest.

I'm liking this idea too.

I would probably want to create a character who would be less obviously the hero who's costume he wears...

So...an overweight Batman, who is still paying off his student loans? The Black Bat-suit is very slimming I presume?

Morphing trans-gender Black Canary?

I like the comic convention idea. I'm sure I could come up with a few ideas. What PL were you thinking about?
