Background:
Akiko Yamaguchi, or 'Aki' to her friends, always knew that her family as different from those of other children. Her Jiichan, or grandfather, took care of her from the time she was very young. Her father was a man that was very important, and her mother, who had been an American, was with the Ancestors. Her Jiichan was very kind to her, but often seemed very sad, and she figured out, in course of her earlier years, that he had once held the same position that her father now did. Whatever her father did, it was dangerous, because they were surrounded all the time by people that had guns, and that were supposed to keep her safe. She had very few friends and was rarely allowed out of the few protected areas that she knew were homes and businesses that were owned and controlled by her father and his friends.

As she aged, Aki began to put the pieces together. She saw enough about the Yakuza on the television that before she was ten she realized that was her family's secret. Her Jiichan went out of his way to protect her from the harsher realities of the dangerous life of their family, while, at the same time, did what he could to prepare her for it. She was tutored in many subjects, including buisness and martial arts, and, by the time she was a teen, she had begun to show promise in those fields. Her Jiichan and her father rarely spent time together, and when they did, they faught, mostly about her. Though she loved her father, and she believed he loved her, they spent very little time together, and she felt that there was something dangerous about him. Her Jiichan, on the other hand, was comforting and always present. He was her truest friend.

As many teenagers do, Aki rebelled against the controls of her life. She began to find ways to sneak out of the sheltered surroundings that she began to feel were a cage, and take forrays into the outside world of Tokyo. She tried to make friends, and even to run away, but her father always found her, and dragged her back to her home, telling her of the shame she had caused him and vowing to punish her. Her Jiichan would then show up after he had left, telling her that he was only angry because she had placed herself in danger, and it was out of love that he had been so harsh.

For her safety or not, Aki was tired of her imprisonment, and, when she was sixteen, put her mind to finding a way to escape it until she decided to come back. She purchased plane and bus tickets so that it would be difficult to track her, and rented three apartments in Tokyo and two in other cities, all to act as a smoke screen to here real plan to live in hotels and perhaps travel abroad. She had stashed a great deal of cash over the time she was making her plan, money her father thought she had spent on clothes and other trivialities, so that she had the means to live on her own for some time. The only thing she regretted was lying to her Jiichan. She wanted to tell him the truth, but she knew he would never let her escape. On the eve of lauching her plan, she kissed him on the forehead, told him that she would see him tomorrow, and tried not to cry.

Determined despite her difficulties, she escaped out into Tokyo. Her plans hid her from her own family well, but, unfortunately for her, her own family were not the only people looking for her. Rival yakuza gangs learned that she had escaped, and were able to track her down more quickly than her father's men. She was kidnapped less than a week after her escape, in a plan to make her father surrender his power in exchange for her life. What came to happen in the aftermath would change her life forever.

Her father was distraught when he learned what had happened to her, but he was a stern man with no intention of allowing his enemies to take his power away. He set a trap for them in the guise of bowing to their demands. Her Jiichan learned of this plan, and, knowing there was no way to talk his son out of the course of action he was set on, made his own plan and secretly went to the site of the meeting himself. He snuck into the building early, and was able to locate Aki before anything violent took place. He moved like a trained ninja, shooting from shadow to shadow and dispatched her guards quickly and silently. By the time he had freed her from the vehicle that she was being held in, the shooting had started, and the two of them managed to escape together, only moments before the whole building was destroyed from a bomb planted there by the men that kidnapped her. Her father and many of his most loyal followers were killed in the blast, and, unknown to her at the time, her Jiichan was seriously wounded by it as well.

He ushered her a secret place, where a woman that she had never met before greeted her with open arms, claiming that she was her Baachan, or grandmother. Her Baachan and Jiichan hadn't spoken in many years, but he had no where else to turn. He knew that, with her father dead, his enemies would seek to kill her so that she would never return to interfere with their business. It was also then when she learned that her Jiichan was hurt, maybe dying. Aki broke down, her entire life had burned down around her, and she blaimed herself.

Her Baachan was a priest of Shinto now, having attoned for the sins of her younger life through religion much as her Jiichan had tried to attone for his through raising Aki. She was a member of a sect that sought to allow others to purify the deeds of their pasts through service to the Shinto spirits, and to their ancestors. As she tried to care for Aki's Jiichan, she also tried to help Aki deal with the horrible events of her recent days, urging her to look to Shinto as a bridge. Aki was distrought enough to embrace just about anything to lessen her suffering, and she found some of the message of the sect spoke to her. It was in this period of time that she first met Osuma, the leader of the sect and a man with a great many secrets in his own past.

Osuma was once a criminal, a smuggler of religious artifacts, and had made a great deal of money in his youth through his lack of respect for the spirits and ancestors of his people. He was resourceful, coming up with many mechanical devices that aided him in the smuggling and security of such items, and sold some of his devices to other criminals for great profit. He also lost a great deal because of those choices, his own family were killed by men that wanted to take artifacts and gadgets from his private collection without paying for them. In the aftermath of that tragedy, he had come to Shinto, eventually becoming a priest and learning some deep and ancient secrets in the process.

Osuma was touched by Aki's growing dedication to Shinto, and by the tragedy of her life. As he Jiichan neared his death, and with enemies still seeking her life, he offered her an opportunity to keep a portion of her Jiichan with her, to help to guide and protect her. It required a ceremony at the time of his death, and she reluctantly agreed, but only after her Jiichan himself finally made her accept that his time had come. The Shinto ceremony involved a ritual tattooing with a sacred Kanji, or word, that bound the Kami, or spirit, of her Jiichan to her. While not like a traditional western ghost or guardian angel, her Jiichan's spirit lent her strength and temperance, qualities he had helped to teach her in life. It also gave her the strength to persevere after his death.

But that wasn't all. The ceremony also left her with visions of her Jiichan's life and experiences which came to her in dreams. It left her with vistages of his skills in life, not least of which was a prowess with the martial arts that he had taught her far beyond her own skills. The girl in her desired vengance for her family, while the spirit bound to her urged temperance. Together, they helped her to form a plan rather than blindly lashing out against the men that had killed her family and were now after her. As the former head of the Yakuza family that her father died in charge of, her Jiichan knew a great deal about the orginization, and, in dreams, she learned of storehouses and safehouses that still existed, though under 'new management.' She forged a plan to attack these places, and slipped out in the night to engage in a silent battle against her foes.

She worked from the shadows, calling the police to investigate some while setting fires at others, and felt that she was doing some good. Her luck didn't hold out for long, however, and she was caught on one of her escapades and forced to defend her self and escape. In the process, she nearly lost her left eye, the experience leaving a deep and permanent scar across that side of her face. Given the injury, she wasn't able to hide what she was doing from Osuma or her Baachan anymore, and confessed to them. Her Baachan was horrified, but Osuma understood better, having such losses as she did in his past. While her Baachan focused on planning to move her to her mother's family in America, Osuma determined to help her on her chosen path.

He conducted another ceremonial tattooing, this time binding other Kami to her with elemental powers. He also gifted her with a bracer that he had designed, which was not only bullet-proof, but had a strong grappling line that could be used to swing, climb, and disable foes. He bundled up some of her Jiichan's things along with the rest of her packing, some of the weapons he had trained with as a younger man, and wished her well on her journey to the west.

Her mother's family had known about her all of her life, but were like strangers, none the less. America was a strange place to her, but, as she had never had any freedoms in her life up to that time, she embraced an open life with a whole heart. Feeling that she would one day return home and defeat the forces that had destroyed her family, she used her time in the streets of Los Angles to fight with minor criminals and perfect her skills and talents, as the vigilante Shintai. It was at that time that she first encounted Avanteguard, and was recruited to the team for a short time.

She found herself well liked among the other heroes, and respected despite her youth, but, eventually, her family troubles followed her across the ocean, and she felt that she was endangering her comrades by staying a part of the team. She went back to Tokyo to deal with her family roots once and for all, and, after a couple of years, finally brought down the Yakuza organization that had hounded her and cost her so much. This didn't leave her on good terms with the remaining Yakuza in Japan, however, and she was again forced back to America, where she sought to rejoin members of the now broken up Avanteguard. When she learned that AfterShock and Blastar had taken up in Miami, she decided to join them, and has been an asset to them ever since.

AfterShock has always thought of her as a little sister, and does what he can to make her life simplier. He feels bad for the girl, knowing that she has had a hard life, but respects her enough not to patronize her. Blastar likes having another girl around she can spar with, but, admittedly, has some trouble with her youth. Overall, she gets along well with them all, but still yearns for more normal family life, and sometimes finds herself getting into trouble in an attempt reclaim a childhood cut short.

Appearance:
Image
Aki Yamaguchi is a very fit young woman of nearly 20, about 5'7" and a good mix of Japanese and American features. She is very attractive, aside from an obvious scar across her face, with long, black hair and large, light brown eyes. Her skin, once quite alibaster, is beginning to show a bit of a tan from her stays on the Miami beaches.

As Shintai, she wears a noh mask with a light half and a dark half, which bears a scar like she does. She wears a jumpsuit with concealed armor, and the bracer that Osuma gave her before leaving Japan. She is often armed with a wakazashi sword and a kisari-gama, in addition to some tricks and gadgets she's picked up along the way.

Complications:
Addiction (Adrenaline): Aki often takes unreasonable risks in the name of the adrenaline rush she will receive. As such, she prefers to be right in front of a fight, trading blow for blow with foes that are usually much larger than she is.
Enemy (Yakuza Families): Having already caused havok for a powerful Yakuza syndicate, the remaining Yakuza see Shintai as a thread, and have put a substantial price on her head.
Reputation (Family History): Being from a Yakuza family can sometimes have it's own drawbacks, especially when dealing with law enforcement or other people with Japanese ancestory.
Poor Impulse Control (Rebellious): Since entering her late teens, Aki has had a strong rebellious streak that she often has a hard time controlling. She has a distaste for conventional authority and tends to develop childish bad habits as a result.

Other Notes:
Another member of the Mean Street team, Shintai is part martial artist, part costumed adventurer, and part street fighter video game. She was a short term character in the game that these characters were originally part of, ultimately unable to adapt to the rigidness of a strait-laced super-hero group, but in Mean Street she fits in much better.

Sword-Breaker

Postby Lord Bayushi78 » Sat Dec 17, 2011 10:50 am

Background:
Kevin Rodrigio spent much of his life as a simple man. His parents admitted to him that he was adopted at an early age, and he had little problem dealing with the fact, given that he was loved as well as any son could ask for. In school, he excelled at sports, and had few troubles beyond finding a direction for his life, knowing only that more school wasn't for him. His adoptive father, retired Major Steven Rodrigio, had been a Marine, and, having no better idea where to go with his life, he followed in his footsteps, joining the Marine Corps strait out of school.

His time in the Corps was spent mainly in tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, where he fought as hard as any man could ask, performing well in the stresses of battle. He was shot twice in that time, both times taking shots aimed at other members of his squad. His humility and his bravery caused him some recognition, but, when offered a commission, he turned them down. He felt that there was something missing from his life, something he hadn't found in the Marines, and, after eight years of service, left honorably.

Kevin didn't know that there was a reason that he was a gifted warrior. His parents hadn't lied about adopting him, but they hadn't been completely honest about his origins, having been genetically produced in the labs of VIPER, a super-criminal organization that had created a number of engineered children that they intended to grow and train into perfect soldiers for their cause. A group of heroes stumbled onto the lab when all of the subjects were still infants, rescuing them from their fate and placing them in good homes, like those of Steven Rodrigio and his wife.

His adoptive father had served with the man that would become a costumed crime fighter known as the Guardsman, a costumed warrior with an unbreakable shield of the rare metal Impervium. The Major was one of the first people that the group approached with the children, as the Guardsman knew that he would care deeply for the son that he had never been able to have with his wife, and that he would be able to spot warning signs of unstable behavior should the child be genetically inclined to madness or other psychological problems.

Due to his family's guidance, Kevin had avoided any such problems, but, upon returning to his life outside the service, Kevin was approached by that same hero that had saved his life so many years before, the Guardsman, now an old man. Not all the children were so lucky as Kevin, one having recently snapped and killed his adoptive family and another member of the Guardsman's team.

The years had worn on the heroes, and one of the other children, a man that now called himself the Headsman, had been developing deep psychotic tendencies for years, asking for a meeting with his one time savior, a heroine called the White Fox in her adventuring days, only to torture her for information before killing the heroine and his adoptive parents, and vowing to hunt down the rest of the heroes that had 'denied him his birthright' before rejoining VIPER himself. His new persona, a crazed swordsman with superior strength and reflexes, was more than a match for the remaining members of the team.

His own sponsor from the team asked Kevin to step forward to help them, knowing that he would be able to serve the world as a new, young, and powerful Guardsman. He bestowed the young man with his shield, and told him the aged team's plan to lure the Headsman into a trap. Kevin never felt up to the challenge, doubt about his past filling him, but he didn't refuse, fearing the worst if he should.

When the trap was sprung, the older heroes distracted and dealt with the rag-tag followers that the Headsman had gathered, leaving Kevin to face the young villain one on one. After a heated battle, Kevin used the Guardsman's shield to snap the Headsman's sword, and the broken tip impaled the villain in the heart, killing him. Feeling guilty for not being able to bring the man to justice, Kevin tried to return the shield, saying that he wasn't worthy to bear the hero's noble name. The Guardsman wouldn't take it back, telling Kevin to have faith in himself, and that the rest would follow.

Weeks passed, and Kevin did some soul-searching. He practiced with the shield, even taking some lessons from the man who had become his short time mentor, who eventually convinced him that he was needed in the world as one of the few that could be a true hero. He also revealed that he had terminal cancer, and that he wanted to see his teachings passed on before he died. Reluctantly, Kevin finally agreed to follow the Guardsman's path, but still felt unworthy of the name. Choosing to call himself Sword-Breaker, he had gathered enough skill and equipment by the time his mentor had died in order to take to the streets a true hero. That was two years ago.

In that time, nature had claimed the lives of two more of the Guardsman's former team, each in the form of the same cancer that killed him. The final member of the team, an telekenetic energy projector that called himself Impact, was diagnosed with the same cancer, but, after careful research, it was found that this cancer was caused by an unnatural source, a low impact radiation that he and the others were exposed to for some time.

Shortly after being committed to his last days in the hospital, Impact received a simple message bearing the symbol of VIPER which he and his team had thwarted long ago. It simply said "I have killed you all, and we will rise again, stronger than ever, to reclaim our birthright." The next day, all of the other children that the team had rescued disappeared. With this news, Kevin was charged by his last living patron to find out what had happened and who was behind it, and to stop them. So tasked, Kevin hopes that he can put a stop to whatever evil plan is on the horizon.

Appearance:
Image
Kevin Rodrigio is a well built man in his late twenties with bright green eyes and blonde hair. He keeps in shape with regular physical exercise, and keeps his appearance in line with Marine Corps standards, meaning that he has a very short (though not quite high and tight) hair cut and is clean shaven.

As Sword-Breaker, he wears a costume that is primarily a high tech version of splinted mail armor, tinted in copper, and including a hauberk and leggings. He wears a mask of gray (patterned after Power-Fist's mask) over his features, and a dull metal helm that covers the top of his face and has a coif in copper chain that covers his neck. His armor also includes heavier shoulder and upper chest guards (think bullet proof football pads, with about half the bulk) in the same dull metal as the helm. He covers it all with a thin tabard of gray, trimmed in black, that bears his icon (as pictured above, minus the green embellishment and inscribed in a solid black circle) and hangs down well below his belt, which is black and has several pouches and a sheathed combat knife. He wears forearm length black leather gloves with copper buckles and heavy leather boots in the same style.

His shield is a perfect disk, concave and made of the rare metal Impervium. It is nearly three feet in diameter, gray in color with a copper band of 1 1/2 inches inscribed about 2 inches from the outside edge, which is black in color. In the center of the shield, his icon also appears in black, just like the tabard.

Complications:
Calling (Responsibility): Kevin feels indebted to Impact and the memory of the team that saved him so long ago, and fills the roles of the hero accordingly.
Enemy (VIPER): Whatever plot has been launched by the evil group that created him, Kevin is obviously a part of, and he wants to avenge the deaths of his patrons.
Responsibility (Family): Kevin has strong ties to his adoptive parents, and is often needed now that they are getting older.
Secret (Identity): Only his adoptive parents and the dying Impact know Sword-Breaker's identity, though it is possible that his enemies have some way of tracking him and discerning who he really is.

Other Notes:
Sword-Breaker is obviously a shameless Captain America clone, and I make no apology for that (he's one of my favorites). Due to the HUGE cost of a decent Deflect power, his other shield slots are hefty, and require a bit of explaining:

His Shield Attack power can be used up close or at range. The Autofire represents either rapid melee strikes or ricocheting the throw so that it attacks either multiple targets or the same target several times. It is built Ranged rather than Thrown, so a final bounce back to him is assumed when used at a distance.

The Shield Rush power is used in conjunction with Overruns, knocking his target aside and immediately hitting them with a powerful strike effect. The 'trail' fades immediately after the attack, so it doesn't effect anyone but the Overrun victims.

Finally, the Shield Hurl power represents a powerful throw that knocks down those in it's path. It's effect is always a continuous chain, returning the shield to him at the end of the attack. It's pattern must be laid out such that pattern is either circular, or represents a ricochet pattern.

Soma

Postby Lord Bayushi78 » Fri Jan 13, 2012 11:35 am

Background:
If not for his displayed prowess well before the time of the first breakout, Haripreet Trivedi would have been labeled a savant long before his personal breakout. His prowess in the fields of chemistry, biochemistry, and pharmacology has been demonstrated time and time again in his career as a pharmaceutical researcher, and he has contributed to the development of no less than three hundred new medicines and treatments for viruses and disease.

Following a major discoverly leading to a new treatment for skin cancer, Dr. Trivedi found himself with a financial windfall that allowed him to create his own research and development company for new medical treatments. He founded Soma Industries, with the goal of producing relatively inexpensive cures to ailments common in third world nations. His successes in this area, and his world wide philanthropic activities, lead the award winning scientist to fame and further fortune, which he found that he enjoyed almost as much as the challenges he faced in the lab. Shortly thereafter, the Paragons began to surface following the first breakout.

Hari found himself enthralled by the Paragon issue, intrigued by the nature of the strange new powers that were being displayed by his fellow men. No longer a young man, there was also something of a personal desire for power and youth in his fascination, and he began a secret project to solve the mystery of breakthroughs. Finding that there was no simple biochemical solution to the problem, he began to search for other possibilities, even turning to ancient Hindu legends of gods for inspiration. His work began to take an alchemical twist, and soon, he believed himself on the verge of a formula that could turn him into a Paragon.

Using his own DNA in conjunction with a formula of many rare and powerful medicinal plants, along with mystical invocations derived from Hindi texts including spiritual preparations as suggested by Sufi teachings, Hari used himself as a human guinea pig, skipping months of clinical tests in his pursuit of a breakthrough.

The treatment proved to be a complete success, transforming his body back into a pinnacle of his youth, and placing his mind and body into a harmony that he had never known. He was stronger, faster, and smarter than he had ever been before, and had an unforeseen capacity to detect the chemical and physical makeup of the world around as accurately as the most advanced scientific instruments, an ability he referred to as his Third Eye. As a side effect of the treatment, which he referred to as a true Soma potion, his skin turned a bright blue hue, like certain Hindu gods, which served to further convince him that he had unlocked the mythical secrets of legendary powers.

Unfortunately, the potion proved to be short term and highly addictive. It gave powerful visions for a few hours after every dose, and, with the exception of his restored youth and vigor, the other powers faded after a day without additional exposure. He learned to work around these problems, his new abilities more than made up for the small price he had to pay to maintain them in his mind, and his work became more successful, though rumors of his drug use have surfaced and have caused some controversy.

Using research from experimental technology for prosthetic limbs, he created his first Avatar Harness, a device that incorporated four mechanical arms that responded to his thoughts as quickly and seamlessly as his natural limbs. This device not only made him feel more a Hindi god, but, as he continued to modify it, including a complex automatic alchemical laboratory of his own design, allowing him to develop chemicals and drugs on the spot that would help him in whatever endeavors he was undertaking.

As time has gone on, Hari has used some of his fortune and influence to hide more and more details of his life from the public eye. It is known that the founder of Soma Industries has become a recluse, working only with a trusted circle of employees that don't see him for long periods of time, and that more and more of his work is being done from a private location somewhere bordering the Los Padres National Forest (some rumors say it's inside the forest itself). This information, along with rumors of widespread drug use, have caused a no end to rumors about his habits and personal life.

Despite this, his most brilliant research has occurred in the past six months, leading to unprecedented breakthroughs in medical science, a direct result of new insights and mental faculties from his Paragon powers. Knowing the danger of his new nature, he has told only a few trusted employees of his breakthrough, and has taken measures to help him conceal his new features while in the public eye. Behind the scenes, he has tried to contact other Paragons with the hope of collecting medical data about their powers and conditions, ultimately hoping to unlock the secrets that would allow everyone a measure of Paragon abilities.

Appearance:
Image
As Dr. Haripreet Trivedi, he appears as an Indian man in late middle age, slightly overweight, who wears thick glasses and is always seen in either a lab coat, or an overcoat. He has the ability to disguise himself with his former (non-Paragon) appearance through the use of a chemical injected from his Alchemical Engine, combined with a number of slimming and concealing engineering features that allows the harness itself (and the arms attached to it) to fold into a far less conspicuous configuration. He also reverts to this natural form when he is unable to refresh his exposure to the Soma Potion.

As Soma, he appears as a shockingly blue skinned Indian man in his mid twenties, well built, with a strange mechanical backpack next to his skin providing him with four additional metallic humanoid arms (two over and two under his natural arms). He wears relatively normal clothing, though cut to allow the harness, which is worn next to the skin, to be exposed without difficulty.

Complications:
Addiction (Soma): In addition to it's other effects (which may or may not be responsible for Hari's Paragon powers), the Soma potion is a powerful hallucinogen, with effects similar to LSD, which last for several hours after it is consumed.
Appearance (Blue Skin): As a side effect of his Soma potion (or his Paragon powers), Hari skin is bright blue in color, which can make him easy to recognize. It is difficult for him to disguise or conceal his appearance without his Avatar Harness.
Fame (Philanthropist): Even before his breakout, Hari was a respected scientist with pharmacological credits to his name. Both before and after becoming a Paragon, he has created many cures to horrible diseases and distributed many of them to the poorest places in the world for little or no cost. As a result, he is well known among scientists, scholars, and those interested in human rights.
Reputation (Hermit and Drug Addict): Despite his work for the betterment of the world, some focus, instead, on rumors of his drug use and recent withdraw from public life. Hari chooses to endure these minor rumors, rather than confront them and risk the discovery of his Paragon nature.
Responsibilities (Soma Industries): As the owner, head researcher and head developer of his corporation, he has many demands on his time to furfill company obligations.
Secret (Paragon): As a Paragon, Hari has hidden his nature in order to hide from the social stigmas that other Paragons endure.

Additional Notes:
As a part of a Paragons style setting with an overtly paranoid twist, Soma has some need for secrecy about his 'new life' in order to continue to help others and further his studies on the Paragon phenomina.

Though originally from India, Hari has lived in Santa Barbara for decades, and his research company is based there. He has strong ties to the community, and considers it far more his home than his native land.

His Alchemical Engine, built into his Avatar Harness, includes hundreds of chemical components that can be mixed at will into an almost unlimited variety of drugs, chemicals, and toxins. Like the arms of the Harness, the Engine responds to his thoughts, allowing seamless and quick response to his commands. It also incorporates a large variety of means for dispersing such chemicals, which include many different injectors (many of which target his own body), aerosol sprayers (both subtle and overt), liquid projectors, and even a multitude of dart guns and chemical canisters for long range injections and dispersal. In short, it can produce virtually any chemical effect at will.

The only person that Hari trusts completely is his personal assistant, Rosemary Caster, who has been his trusted friend and confidant for years. In addition to being a competent secretary, organizer, and, in a pinch, lab assistant, she is a skilled driver and pilot, and is usually in Hari's company, or, at the very least, can be called on in very short order. She has virtually no personal life, which shows a measure of her devotion to her employer (and friend), and she values her role very highly. (Rosemary's sheet is below).

Minion Details:
Background:
Rosemary Caster was a career-minded young woman with dreams of joining the United States Secret Service following her days as a helicopter pilot in the Army. She left the service and began her stint in college for criminal justice, when a night of poor judgment resulted in a DUI conviction, dashing her career goals. Instead, she joined a private security firm flying big-wigs from rooftop to rooftop for moderate pay.

Her mother suggested that she follow in her footsteps as a corporate assistant in order to increase her salary, so she took classes to that end while continuing to fly executives around in helicopters. Nearing the end of her classes, she happened to be flying Dr. Trivedi and an assistant to an important conference, when the doctor discovered his presentation file had been corrupted and he no longer had the only copy of a power point presentation for his lecture. When she overheard the problem, she offered to help, and, once they landed, quickly put together a new presentation for the lecture, hoping for nothing more than a good tip.

Two weeks later, she was contacted by Soma Industries with a job offer as their only staff pilot. Dr. Trivedi had intended to buy a helicopter for months, but the young pilot's actions had reminded him of the idea, and he insisted on her services, providing pay equal to triple her former salary in exchange for being on call most of the time. She accepted, with suspicion at first, but quickly learned that Dr. Trivedi had no intention of inappropriate advances.

In the eight years that Rosemary has worked for Soma Industries, she has progressed from the staff pilot, to Dr. Trivedi's personal assistant, driver, and right hand woman. She considers Hari to be a close friend, and has the utmost loyalty to him and his company. She was the first person to learn of his experiments to chase a breakthrough, but trusted his intentions and skills. She continues to be his most trusted employee and, if not in his company, she is never far away from it.
