However, I was thinking that play-by-post might benefit me since it allows me more time to look things up in the books or ask questions around the forums if I'm unsure of what to do.

If the villains take the initiative then it will be a player driven story, as it was previously mentioned, so there would be less of a burden coming up with an entire plot. I figured if players left me with 3 sentences of back story, 3 beliefs, and 3 goals (short, medium and long term) I might be able to connect the dots and whip something up to unite their characters.

Thoughts? This isn't a commitment yet either. I would rather play a game myself.
PbP is a great way to get your feet wet, eddieisbored. I have PDFs of most of the books, and when I set aside time to GM my games here, I bring them all up and then search through until I understand what people are doing, what rolls I need to make, etc., etc. And the 2e rules forum is regularly read by a number of people with excellent understanding of the rules-- and who post regularly-- so you should be able to get answers to your questions quickly.

I'd be happy to help, but as it is, I'm GMing one game, and am going to open another soon, and I think that for now, that's my limit.
My PCs: Red Knight (Shades of Gray), The White Lantern (New Freedom League), Kodiak (Iron Age). My games: Freedom League (West Coast). My setting: Angel Bay (in the Freedomverse).

still keen Eddie, don't worry. If you run a villains campaign, I am sure that everyone here could come up with zillions of ideas that they would want to do with a villain.

After reading over the responses I feel more encouraged to run a game. Give me a day or two to solidify a setting and I will post the link to the recruitment thread in this one.

Also, I'm sure to make mistakes. I welcome anyone to PM me these issues whenever they come up.

That's great news!

As for mistakes-- don't worry, they happen. If you're not a total expert on the rules, one thing you might request is for PCs to submit simpler builds. Players sometimes get wedded to rather strange and complicated ideas that translate into particularly difficult-to-follow builds. (One person asked help for building a PC that "is described as a 'living fusion reactor' ... my character fuses the atoms of whatever is in their surroundings (usually air) to gain their energy ... but my character doesn't then take that energy and use it as a radiation power… That's where their second power array comes in. They're a powerful psionic. They take the energy they get from the nuclear fusion and the direct it back out as psionic powers." Sounds fun!)

With less-complicated builds, you have a smaller chance of running into bigger problems half way through the campaign.

Anyhow, good luck!

If you have any rules questions or system questions you can always ask the players. You will probably get at least one or two players who are well versed in the system.

There are so many good helpful people here who will offer advice that I can't think of a better place to try running a game.

The next question is what PL level. If you are going 10 or higher then the villains are the big league, potentially dealing to superheroes or overthrowing nations depending on their powers. If you go low PL then you are the wrecking crew or a bunch of glorified mooks.
I am happy with either end of the spectrum :)

Thanks poodle. I'll take whatever help you are all willing to give. Other than that, if you foresee me running the game into the ground be sure to let me know as soon as you get the feeling. That way I can talk it out with whomever and level out the pitch.
