That quote will always reminds me of one of the victory quotes from Lezard Valeth (from the best JRPG ever, Valkyrie Profile): "They say one should not speak unkindly of the dead, so I say 'Nice try!'"

-Mercy was added to be another Harley Quinn, but for Lex Luthor- an attractive female sidekick to the Main Villain, as well as being a general Girl Friday sort, taking Lex's calls, driving him around, and beating up on people he didn't like. Her most notable scenes include her catfighting with Harley (complete with "cat yowls" in the background), and taunting a dying Lex Luthor once she'd gotten the reigns of LexCorp while he was a wanted criminal. She's nowhere near the Heroic Class of fighters, but handy for Mooks and the like- PL 7 at Martial Arts, PL 7.5 with a Gun.

-"The Dark Heart" was a pretty awesome "JLU" episode, featuring The Atom helping out the League against a massive extraterrestrial threat- a nanotech-driven machine that endlessly produces a massive horde of unthinking mechanical weapons to eat matter and ultimately destroy whatever planet it lasts on. The Atom, using the snarky, self-righteous/self-deprecating acting style of John C. Reilly, has his finest moment here, giving the creature a 'heart attack' by sneaking in through it's defenses and wrecking it's innards, after the ENTIRE LEAGUE fails to stop it's forward momentum (merely holding it off).

-The Dark Heart is mainly showcased through it's endless drones, and barely requires stats (ie. it's a Plot Device). By using their Matter-Eating power, the Heart builds more robots, sending an unending tide against the world. Not that high in PL- it's immobile and it's Minions are nowhere near a match for the JLU members one-on-one, or even ten-on-one, it's still among the greatest threats the team's ever faced. Even the prospective limit on it's Summon is probably not entirely accurate- it'll simply reproduce mechanical creatures until the entire planet and everything on it is gone.

Image

And of course this is the first picture I see on Google Image when I look up "Dark Heart JLU". Oh, internet, you are so predictable :).

Here's a fun link to Rob Liefeld's blog, in which he describes how he handles the monumental amount of criticism that comes his way. He even refers to his infamous "horrible Captain America drawing" that's the largest source of anti-Rob snark out there. Liefeld fascinates me- I loved him like everyone else did in the early '90s, but his stuff aged poorly, his post-X-Force creations SUCKED, and his bad business decisions and image-tracing burned everyone on him later.

Also, a bit on The G.I. Joe comic book by Larry Hama, which I've referred to before. Also, watching cartoon episodes and reading the comics just re-affirms my belief that Dusty is one of the most awesome Joes, and totally worthy of being in my Top Ten Joe Characters. Seriously, in the comics he hauls ass across a No Man's Land just to grab a dying buddy, then carts his dead carcass for MILES, all because he made a promise to the guy's mother to bring a body back if he ever died (her own brother was K.I.A. years ago, but they received nothing to bury).

And in the cartoon, he finds out his mother's sick and needs money for medicine, and Cobra comes calling with an offer to betray the Joes for money. So what does he do? A) Reject them outright? B) Play along, then try to betray them of his own accord? C) Accept their offer, only to feel bad about it later and try to make it up to the Joes? Hell no- he goes straight to his Commanding Officer (Duke), and then asks HIM what to do, just like a good soldier should. DUKE creates the entire plan to act as a spy within Cobra's ranks, and Dusty does his job. Dusty rules.

He's a one-shot guy in "Task Force X", beating the living crap out of Vigilante, and leading his squad to stealing The Annihilator from Justice League Headquarters. He's elite enough to be a PL 9 Soldier who can kick ass in melee as well as Black Canary.

-Doctor Polaris is basically a lesser version of Magneto in many respects, though his comic book version (initially a Green Lantern foe, he was later "farmed out" to most other DC Characters, since he's always been minor-league) had a case of "Jekyll & Hyde Syndrome", with an evil super-powered side, after his experiments with magnets gave him super-powers. He really only showed up in two "JLU" episodes ("The Great Brain Robbery" and the Blackhawk Island attack), showing an intense rivalry with Lex Luthor in the "Legion of Doom", and attempting open revolt with Flash-in-Luthor's-Body was having problems keeping order. His comic book version & "JLU" version both have ridiculously-bad costumes, though a later version developed a REALLY cool helmet/mask, making him look rather awesome. Unfortunately, Magneto casts a VERY large shadow here, and thus Polaris will always be known as a lesser guy.

-Determining his PL from a single pair of episodes was tough, but I figure him for about PL 11, since he was a potential leader of the Legion, and did really well against Hawkgirl, Flash & Fire (until they found out his weakness). But yeah, Magneto-Lite.

-Lobo was originally a bounty-hunter character in the Omega Men series DC had going in the '80s, but he pretty quickly disappeared- oddly enough, he was created by Roger Slifer, who wrote some of the best episodes of "Jem and the Holograms" back in the day. He was brought back in the '90s, deliberately decked out as a bad-ass, leather wearing pastiche of '90s heroes, but, in the kind of thing that usually happens in comics, he ended up getting POPULAR among the very crowd he was supposed to be making fun of, and he was set as a character. This kind of thing tends to happen to "over the top bad-ass" characters, as the line between parody and straight example is razor-thin, and bad-ass antics tend to make fans very quickly, even if they're meant in jest, because they're STILL BAD-ASS FEATS. The same thing occurs with "Parody Fanservice Characters", since they, y'know, dole out fanservice. Snarky boobs are as good as regular boobs, ya know.

-As a result, any time you meet an unironic Lobo fan, beware. With a variable power level based on the book he's involved in, his appearances are invariably comedic, as he just hits anything moving and uses his colourful assortment of alien slang swear words.

-I just went with the standard Superman-class brawler Lobo, as that's pretty much how he was in the "JLU" episode I've seen. Physically he's a match for Kal-El or anyone on the League (it took the whole team to beat him up, and he took down PL 11-ish Kalibak single-handedly without much effort), but he's a bit lower-end on Defense. I took out the silly "Regenerate from a single drop of blood" thing that was probably intended as a gag and not a recurring thing, but left on a couple ranks just for the hell of it. His cartoon appearance was more of a "generic big guy" role.

Yeah, both guys are on the list. Though Super Darkseid isn't any different from Regular Darkseid, really. I saw no evidence of extra power.

And haha, the "Care Bears 2" villain. Awesome. Dude had Beast Boy's power-set, and convinced the audience to "Clap your hands to save her life".

Superman punches Lobo

break to lex talking on the phone about his newest weapons sytem.

Lobo bursts through the floor "KILL FRAG MAIM DESTROY!!" Lobo goes out through ceiling

Lex stands there with stunned look on face.

Dude, he was basically Satan :D

He had way more than Beast Boy's powers ;) He could like teleport people and make tornadoes and... yeah...

And he was a red, pointlessly evil dude who wanted to destroy everything good in the world just because :D

I've always maintained that the Care Bears movies had a major fundie bent ;) At least the first two.

I like the interpretation that the Care Bears are thought police, personally. They've even got a machine that measures the happiness level of the world.

--Hellgrammite is a fifth-tier Superman villain who was chosen (seemingly at random) to be a background character in "JLU". Never named on-screen that I can remember, he basically stood around and was a bug, and that's it. I was nice to him by making him a PL 8 (like the show's other Jobbers), and he keeps his comic book abilities, which include turning people into bugs, and being a bug himself.
