Weaken Attack rules?

Postby h4ch3 » Wed Jan 25, 2012 10:41 am

Hi to all! and welcome to a now episode of Newbie questions!

Today´s Episode is about Weaken attack.

By House rulz, the GM has decided to eliminate the extras Broad, and Simultaneous from the Weaken Effect, saying that debilitating an entire set makes power VERY powerful.

Im not sure about the Broad, but yes, with simultaneous is kind of very powerful. What do you think?

Ok now, questions about the power.

WEAKEN RESISTANCE CHECK
Fortitude or Will vs. DC [10 + Weaken rank]
Success: No effect.
Failure: The target loses power points from the affected
trait equal to the difference between the check result
and the DC, up to a maximum of the Weaken rank.

Thats ok, in the other paraghraph it says:

Lost points return at a rate of 1 per round at the end
of each of the target’s turns.

Now the question:

Assuming that the Weaken effect has the INCURABLE extra, is that the only way a player can recover the lost points (1 per round)?

Or does he have to make a check every end of turn (The book says nothing about it)?

And to make it clear:

If i hit to STAMINA with weaken 8 the player and the player rolls an 8 with will 2:

8 + 2 = Will 10 vs Weaken 8 + 10: 8 points of difference.

The stamina loses 8 points instantly? or is a progressive effect, like -1 per round until it reaches -8? (not talking about the extra)

I ask this because the GM want to implement a house rulz where the affected player have the opportunity of make a check every end of turn to recover all his points. What do you think about it?

Thanks for reading and sorry for my english!!!

If you have Incurable on your Weaken, targets have to wait to recover normaly, this is, they can't be Healed.

So in your example, if you fail by 8, you lose 8 points of Stamina (which is four ranks). That's also the maximum you can lose, because Weaken is limited to the number of ranks (which is actually one of the problems with the effect, IMO).

There's no check to recover from Weaken, you simply recover one point per round. So, again using your example, it would take 8 rounds to recover from the Stamina loss.

It means if you have Weaken 10 you can only ever reduce their trait by 10 points total. If you have 5 ranks of weaken you can only ever reduce their trait by 5 points total. If you should hit them with the same weaken again while they are already "maxed out" on your weaken then your attack would do nothing. It does not build on itself infinitely, it gets to its cap and stops.

Yes,

because Weaken is limited to the number of ranks

is not that bad considered the fact that -10 in STA would mean death anyone less than Captain America and still a wolverine with -10 STA would be easily less resistant against damage...

Isn't it limited to reducing the power's PP, not the number of ranks?

So Weaken 10 (Stamina) only reduces the target's Stamina score by 5.

Correct?

Yes, that's basically what I said, but I can see how it would be confusing. The OP used Weaken 8, which would max out at 4 ranks of Stamina loss.

If you have Weaken Speed 10, you can reduce Speed ranks by 10 (potentailly up to Speed -5, or 6 inches per round), since speed costs 1 point per rank.
