"Yeah, we can talk about it when you get back," He gives Kas a pat on the shoulder, "Keep your eyes open..."

Lex rolled his eyes, "You know what I mean. Good luck."

<<"Okay then, how about we meet here tomorrow after classes?>>" Otso smiled sheepishly. <<"I... I want to do this right.">> He held her hand for a moment longer before getting up to leave.

Otso could admit to himself when he was out of his comfort zone. Maybe Lex or Jason knew about the places to go to in Vienna. Siege might be someone to talk to as well. The cook was a bit crude but that didn't mean he didn't know what he was talking about. Silently Otso resolved to go to the cafeteria next.

NVAE, FIRST FLOOR: HEADMISTRESS' OFFICE (Jack, Jack and Martin; NPCs: Doctor Fischer, Hubris, Pict, Quintessence)
"Besides," Jack said, "I'm at least due this chance to say good bye to him."

"I couldn't agree more," Quintessence whispered, "but you know that Doctor Fischer's not going to let you go. If we're going to do this, it'll have to be sneaky-"

"Mister Ander?" The man gave a start at the sound of his name. "Did you... do somezing to a person I was on ze phone wiz earlier today?" The man's face scrunched up in thought as he met Martin's gaze. "I wanted to zank zem for zere advice and assistance."

The Vindicator's eyes narrowed. "It's never easy, is it?" he asked. "In the middle of all the confusion, I almost forgot about our other prisoner... I'll have to give my report later--in the meantime, can I suggest talking to Lex Murphy? He knows more about Mister Bottom than I do at the moment and... I need to attend to something else..."

He glanced at Jack out of the corner of his eye and then looked to an empty space in the office--a space Jack had a clear path to... Suddenly, Quintessence opened a portal through. "I'm sorry," he said slowly, "but I have to be tending to the matter of Therianthrope..."
Michuru81 wrote:I'm going to go ahead and fiat on Jack's behalf: you know exactly what Quintessence is doing, Tattooedman... He's trying to tell Jack to rush in so he can claim that he had no control over taking him there. ;)
PITVAROS, HUNGARY (Jack; NPCs: Quintessence, Therianthrope)
Jack had rushed through the portal and was followed by Quintessence. The man closed the gateway behind him, insuring that no one else

"Welcome to the Great Southern Plain," Quintessence muttered, looking out at the village of [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitvaros]Pitvaros. He reached up to his ear and plucked out his communicator. "If we want deniability, we can't have contact with the school. Going to have to scratch the part of your plan where you're alone with your dad, I'm afraid...

"It's that or nothing."

Not far from where they had landed was a small caravan of armored transports. At their approach, soldiers stepped out of the vehicles. Quintessence introduced himself and the youth with him simply as Lex Murphy. Odds are, he knew that the American's real name would rouse suspicion... given that it was his father they were transporting.

They led the pair around to one of the trucks and opened the back. Inside, Jack found a steel door flanked by two armed guards. Two more soldiers climbed in and synchronized the insertion of their keys perfectly. "Each soldier carries a key, but only two keys work," explained Quintessence as the door slowly opened. "If any of the wrong keys are inserted, a failsafe is activated..."

When they were allowed inside, Jack found himself face to face with Therianthrope. The man was chained to the wall--spread-eagle and bound with what looked like steel cables around his wrists, elbows, shoulder, neck, waist, hips, knees, ankles...

A flashing breastplate adorned his naked chest. Given the look of the do-dad, Jack figured it for some sort of incendiary.

"Hello, Jack," Therianthrope said weakly. "I was hoping I'd get to see you before they took me in..."

NVAE, FIRST FLOOR: CAFETERIA (Lex; NPCs: Astrid, Kirstie, Mouloud, Mouloud's Mother, Siege)
Once Kas had left their group, Siege invited Mouloud and his mother to challenge his culinary talents. They saddled up to the counter beside Astrid, leaving Kirstie alone with Lex. "Feels like forever since we talked," the Brittish girl sheepishly said. "How are you?"

NVAE, THIRD FLOOR: HALLWAY (Otso; NPCs: Juozas and Larrikin)
Otso left Beatrice's room and set off for the stairs. Opening the door, the sound of chatter hit his ears. "No way," one of the young men said.

"I'm telling you, drop bears are real! Bloody things look just like koalas--only when they open their mouths and show off those long, hideous fangs that you know what you're dealing with..."

"Why do they call 'em 'drop bears'?"

"They climb up into trees and drop down on unsuspecting people--use those fangs to tear out their larynx so they can't raise an alarm to anyone with 'em..."

"Damn..."

"Yeah, Oz is a bloody mess with danger around every corner." The pair came around the corner and Otso saw them clearly now: Juozas and Larrikin were climbing the stairs together. "You know the platypus has poisonous ankles, right?"

At the sight of Otso, Larrikin paused; Juozas continued climbing though: "Okay, now that you're making up..." Suddenly, he seemed to register the Finn's presence as well. He looked from one sophomore to the other, worriedly. "What?" he asked.

Kasimir Flaegler

Polishing off his beignet, Kas walked outside, licking the crumbs off his fingers. Tilting his face upward, he inhaled deeply and smiled. He was pretty certain it was against the rules, or at least frowned upon, for him to be doing this, but he loved to fly. Hubris refusing his help on a combat mission didn't bother him all that much. True, his powers were handy in a fight, but nothing he was capable of compared to the simple joy of flying. Donning his helmet, he launched himself into the sky.

"Up, up and away! Off gehe ich in das fernweh."

Greystone:
[Jack Rexroth]
HP: 8

"Hello, Jack," Therianthrope said weakly. "I was hoping I'd get to see you before they took me in..."
Jack coldly eyed the man in front of him. Dale was such a stranger in the teen's mind that the idea of being related to him simply just didn't register anymore. "Why's that? So we can talk about all the good times we've had? Laugh at the funny memories? Or did you wanna talk about how you fell into a bottle and took all your anger over what happened to her out on me instead?" Jack shook his head, "I'll pass either way. It's bad enough I've gotta talk about all that with the shrink at school." And for the first time in a few years Jack's tone didn't grow louder or hostile as he spoke about the things the man bound in front of him had done. This time it was more like talking about bad memories that had finally faded with time.

"Better yet you can just answer a question for me; why Laputa? Why do all those things? Do you honestly think stealing from and killing normal people are gonna make us Neos any safer?" Again Jack shook his head as he asked the questions and followed them up with a statement. "You're going to make Europe turn into America if you and the rest of Laputa keep things up and since I'm the only one in here who's been in those damned camps let me tell you a bit about them - they f#%&ing suck."

"Honestly? I'm kind of freaking out," Lex says sitting down and rubbing his head, "I mean, how messed up is it when you're happy the guys with AKs are coming at you."

"It's like... at least this I know how to handle."

He sighs, "The vindicators are... gone... again. Wouldn't really tell me what they're up to, but they just left a huge threat behind, and we're left wide open again while they're off... somewhere. We got some guy locked up who walked in here claiming to be a teacher but was actually some guy who can talk people into believing the nonsense he says so he might be Laputa. And now, for reasons beyond me, I'm in charge of keeping everybody in here safe because they won't let Martin do it, and... well, the Vindicators are gone all the time, and lets be honest it's not like anybody else other than us is going to do it."

"And now they go me picking people out for missions. So, if anybody gets hurt it's my fault,"
Lex runs his hands through his hair, "And that's just the stuff I can tell you about, I mean, there's crazy stupid crap going on all around us, and it seems like everybody hates me just for trying to do something right by them and..."

Lex manages a lobsided grin, "And what happened to the biggest thing in our lives being us worrying about what to do on the weekend? Ya know?"

"Like when that was the most important thing in the world. It wasn't worrying if we're going to get attacked again, wondering what those nuts are going to do next, or what our teachers were going to throw at us it was just... Us. Having fun..."

He stares at the floor, "I miss having fun."

"Prisoner? But 'e..." Martin cut off as the portal opened and Jack rushed through it. There was dismay and shouting and Mr. Ander, surely with the excuse of getting Jack back, went through and the portal closed behind him. Martin could swear there was a half smile on the Math Teacher's face. There was yelling and confusion and phone's being picked up in a violent manner.

Martin sighed and slipped out from all that mess.

It had been a while since he'd spoken to Lex, anyway, probably a good idea.

Martin sniffed the air and turned to start walking to seek his fellow prefect.

NVAE, THIRD FLOOR: HALLWAY (Otso; NPCs: Juozas and Larrikin)
Larrikin leaned away and raised an eyebrow at the Finn. "You're not gonna bleamin' threaten to disembowel me again, are ya?"

"I deserved that, didn't I?" Otso gave a tired sigh. "No, no threats of violence and no actual violence."

It was Larrikin's turn to sigh. "What do you want, Teddy Ruxpin?" he asked wearily.

PITVAROS, HUNGARY (Jack; NPCs: Quintessence, Therianthrope)
For the longest time, Therianthrope sat in silence. He said nothing--gave no answer to his son's questions--but looked as if he were mulling over the best response.

"I'm sorry to say you didn't come from the smartest man, Jack," he said. "I ain't good with words--not the way your mom was. I ain't talkin' about Tabitha either, son: she's got a silver tongue, yeah, but she's got nothin' on your mom...

"Honestly? I dunno. I just..." He took a deep breath. "Laputa's gonna give you and the other kids at that school of yours the kind of life you all deserve, Jack! Tabitha... Erudite is going to make everything better! They're both so smart, Jack! That's their power!" Quintessence raised an eyebrow at Therianthrope's choice of words. "All of this--everything we've been doing!?!--it's all part of a plan to..." He hesitated. "I guess I can talk about it, now that I'm carrying a different seed, huh? Look, Jack: the plan is that we're going to conquer the world. Things won't be like they are in America because anyone who wants to oppress us--anyone who wants to try doing what they... what they already did to you...

"They won't get the chance... Erudite won't let 'em! Once everything is ready, all of our enemies will be forced to be our allies!"

Quintessence's eyes bulged. "How?" he asked. "How can you assure us that our enemies will just abandon all of their prejudices and hatred?

"It's Lacuna, isn't it!?!" Suddenly, Jack's father's face matched the Vindicator's look of alarm. "You all keep referring to Tabitha Lamperouge and Erudite as if they're two separate people... It's because they are, aren't they? One body, two minds...

"Martin said that Lacuna uses different names... Erudite is just another name, isn't it, Dale? Lacuna is controlling Tabitha Lamperouge and calling itself Eru-" The rest of the puzzle was suddenly clear to him. "Jason Lamperouge is a Neo-Sapien... not an Esper. The intellect he wields is genetic and augments the mental capabilities of whatever personality is at the wheel... So, if Lacuna were to plant a seed inside of Tabitha Lamperouge and if that seed were to bloom... We'd be facing off against a Lacuna with the Lamperouge hyper-intellect...

"That's the plan, isn't it? Lacuna is using Tabitha's powers to concoct some sort of master scheme that will put it in position to plant seeds in everyone who stands up against them... You weren't lying when you said you were going to take over the world, were you? You've just been misleading everyone as to your intentions for it..."

"Please," Therianthrope begged. There were tears in his eyes. "Please, just..." He shook his head, unsure of what to say now. "I couldn't save your mom, Jack! I can't let Tabitha suffer too!"

NVAE, FIRST FLOOR: CAFETERIA (Lex and Martin; NPCs: Astrid, Kirstie, Mouloud, Mouloud's Mother, Siege)
"I don't hate you," Kirstie said softly. "Farfromit.

"I think we can still have fun. I heard you're supposed to be planning a dance or something, right? Hopefully without Viktor's brother, this time..."

The doors opened again, this time admitting Martin into the room...

LAPUTA (Candyman; NPCs: Basilisk, Confectionery, Entier, Erudite, Lioness, Manticore, Niloticus, Rheid, Tantivy, Zehirli)
She couldn't bring herself to say it: something was wrong. As Vlad understood it, the plan was that Therianthrope would be escorted through the doors of Pandora and Lacuna's seed would take root. Lacuna would take over and then... Lacuna would take over.

Granted, if given the option of continuing out a life sentence in prison or joining a terrorist group, most of the prisoners would probably elect for the latter; still, Erudite wanted to take no chances and the plan was for Lacuna to possess everyone imprisoned there. Once the prison belonged to the Esper, it was to radio the others and give them coordinates for a pick up. With an army of loyal, super-powered criminals, there would be no stopping them...

But something was wrong...

Making matters worse, Felsic had returned from the Netherlands was bad news: the New Vindicators had not only prevented Vociferant's death but they had captured part of Entier. "Can you track her?" Erudite asked, looking to Jeanette's husband.

Basil Curie nodded. "Humboldt penguins can use their sense of smell to find their mate in a crowded rookery," he intoned matter-of-factly. "I assure you: I am far more evolved than a penguin. If I know my other half, she'll have left me a trail that I could follow to the ends of the earth."

"There exists the chance that the delay on Therianthrope's mission is due to them discovering our Trojan horse," Erudite offered. "If that is the case, they'll not risk sending Entier to Pandora. Find her and free her--we'll need all the strength we can have. The time to attack is coming..."

Entier nodded and looked to Felsic. "We shall leave in the morning."

"I'd rather not risk more of you than I have to," Erudite said, "but it's better to send a moderate force than risk two of you falling into a trap." She scanned the remaining members of Laputa for suitable teammates on this mission. "Lioness and Candyman will join you," she intoned.

Martin doesn't look about the room. That's what a normal person would do look up and around, possibly lock eyes with the one they were looking for and that ocular connection would be a question or clue that the person was sought and was now a good time. Not Martin.

He walked first to the serving line then corrected as the scent oriented him to the table he shared with Kristie. Only then did he look up. "Bon Jour Lex, Kirstie. Is now a good time?"

Lex grins at Kirstie, "Well, arn't you a sweetheart?"

He fights a sigh at the mention of the dance, "Yeah, I really need to work on figuring that out, of course I got nothing so... plan b, deligation. I get people who have ideas to help."

He pauses, "Want to help?"

He fights the urge to jump when Martin speaks, he hadn't noticed the frenchman at all. So much for keeping his eyes open.

"Martin, boy are you a sight for sore eyes," Lex let out a sigh of relief.

Somehow having Martin around took a little of the weight off his shoulders. The kid was crazy powerful, could heal people and had not only a good head on his shoulders but a good heart to go with it. Considering what seemed to be circling the school it was a refreshing change.

"Good to see you're back. How are things?"

Martin sits and talks low for his fellow K-towners.

"Today 'as been.... long. I can trust your... discretions, yes?" He waits for affirmation from them both before continuing.

"Today I bore witness at ze trial of Captain Nelson and, assisted by a man by ze apparent name of 'Mr.Bottom' 'ere at ze school badgered Captain Nelson into confessing 'is status as a Laputa spy zat killed 'is own wife. Tatjana will never forgive me."

"Zen, when my mozer, disguised as 'is clothes, tried to kill 'im before 'e could give us information, zen steal Tatjana to eizer join or become 'ostage, Gaspar, Emily, and I assisted Fey in stopping 'er. I... contained my mozer until a suitable prison could be made to specification, zen turned 'er over to ze auzorities. We learned several zings of Laputa's operation, not least is zat zey 'old some people as prisoners in zeir floating Island as proof against people just crashing in zere and against our specific involvements. One of which is a 'Lillian Murphy'. A relation of yours I am assuming."

"Oh! But, 'ow are zings wiz you?" He says to complete the social custom.

Otso glanced at Juozas before returning his attention to Larrikin. "Oh to hell with it. I wanted to apologize Larrikin, for what I said the other day. I was being a real ass." The Finn shook his head sadly. "You have as much right to be here as the next guy. And you were there for Beatrice at the museum. I owe you for that, more than I can express." He offered his hand to the Aussie. "So how about starting over, as friends? Hi there, my name's Otso Karell, nice to meet you."
