Age of Heroes (Regrouping)

Postby roguescribner » Wed Feb 15, 2012 11:18 am

Concept:

This will be an anthology superhero game!

Each chapter of this story will focus on a different time and region in history. It will trace the origins of superheroes from antiquity through the modern day. There will be an overarching story that will link each chapter together and culminate in the final adventure scenario for this game. The chapters will be largely unrelated to each other, resembling a series of one-shot adventures that are linked under one thematic umbrella. PCs are not expected to carry over from one adventure to the next, but I will not rule it out if the concept is appropriate and I find it interesting. Players, of course, are encouraged to keep playing from chapter to chapter if they wish. If anyone has played Assassin's Creed, the game will roughly be structured in the same manner.

Here is a link to the original interest thread that may shed some more light on the concept.

Chapter 1: Fire in the Sky

Backstory:

The game will begin in Ancient Egypt. The first pyramid was recently completed and each player character will start out as a normal human Egyptian. Early in the adventure, powers will manifest and the players will have to balance their new found abilities against a growing threat.

Player characters will be in their mid- to late teens. You should have some reason to exist in the royal palace, whether you are the child of a noble or servant or whatever. Being the offspring of the Pharaoh Djoser is restricted as they will be NPCs. Also, there will be references to military battles, so please state if your character is in the military (or wishes to be).

Please note that while I'm going to try to keep a toe dipped in the waters of history, my main objective is to tell a good story so drama will trump reality in this game.

Game Notes:

3E PL8 120pp

PCs will derive their power from four core concepts: namely the primordial waters, air (or invisibility), darkness, and eternity (or infinite space). Interpret that how you will (please try to refrain from any direct Egyptian god analogues, thank you). I will be looking for a mix of male and female characters to fulfill these roles, choosing one to two submissions from each core power concept.

As everyone's character will start out as human, I won't go so far as to require a separate non-powered build, but please keep your base human traits in mind when you consider your enhanced abilities. Build to concept, not maximum power.

I'm still getting my feet wet in the 3E system, but there seemed to be some demand for it in the interest thread, so I'm going to give it a go. To keep things simple for me, I'm going to ask that no one submit any size- or shape-changers. Also, some house rules are listed below (that seem common from some threads that I've read).

House Rules:

    1. Impervious works as in 2E and is capped at PL. Penetrating works as described in 3E.
    2. Non-combat skills may be purchased at 3 ranks per power point.
    3. Regeneration costs 2 power points per rank and it's rank + Toughness may not exceed 2xPL.

Let the games begin! :)

Submissions:

Ahti (Lord Fell) - handmaiden shadowmancer [D]
Antesh (RedBeardJim) - speed/time controlling servant [E] - WITHDRAWN
Hesaret (optionqb) - jr. priestess deflection fielder [A]
Hound (Hound) - immortal hunter [D]
Jabari (Gazman) - enhanced soldier [A]
Kifi (Coyotzin) - water form healing shaman's apprentice [W]
Panya (knitcat) - dancer/assassin [A]

Tath (ZetaGilgamesh) - super strong woodcutter [E]

How much of a difference are you allowing between defense and toughness numbers?

Initially it was, but comments in the interest thread persuaded me to give 3E a try. If it doesn't work out, I can always switch back to 2E for the subsequent chapters.

I'm sorry if this will preclude anyone from playing the game.

Also, I would like submissions to be creative in the interpretation of the four core power concepts. I'm not looking for any direct Egyptian god analogues as this story will pre-date that in a fashion.

As this is PL8, I would say no more than a 3 point trade off. I don't think it will be necessary to hit caps on every type of save, but it's fine if you do.

Ah. Oh well, then hopefully it will change to 2E for a different chapter. Maybe you could alternate, from edition to edition?

Have fun guys-dang it looks so cool too!

Could you explain the core power concepts? I'm completely unfamiliar I'm afraid.

I'm interested in playing a female courtier within the palace walls. Not a concubine, more of an entertainer/dancer for the royal court. I doubt many would go that route in a game like this, so I think it'd be a unique concept.

Got an idea for the "Eternity" power source -- a young palace servant who develops the ability to manipulate the flow of time, on a personal level. At first all he notices is that he's finishing his assigned duties quicker than he used to -- eventually it develops to a point where it functions like superspeed/teleportation.
