I'm ok! Don't worry!

So, what's the deal with the H&V 2 release? Anything new to report?!

I wasn't aware there was a licensing issue going on. To better understand what is happening, I have a few questions. Without getting into things you shouldn't and can't.......this licensing issue is the delay for H&V Vol 2? So, does that mean everything on the GR side was completed and turned over to DC to OK prior to release of the PDF? Are we just awaiting DC's OK (or notes to fix things, then need to re-OK) before PDF release? Thanks. Any information would be much appreciated! :)

To be clear, I wouldn't call the upcoming release of H&V volume 2 "A Delay" as they never officially announced a release date (to my recollection). It certainly didn't face the series of problems that the first book did, but it has been in the works for a while so I imagine they're pretty close to the finish line.

Chris's roundtable discussion goes into supporting licenses and what you (as a game publisher) need to do in order to make people like DC happy. Often, the process of getting final approval takes longer than we would like because publishers often have different priorities than gamers do. The end result, however, has to be a product that makes Green Ronin *and* DC happy... and I think Heroes and Villains Volume 2 will make us happy, indeed. I'm certainly looking forward to hearing some kind of official announcement from the GR folks soon! :)

Very true. But when book 3 of the 4 volume set is still 'pending' (with no firm release date) a year and a half after the core gamebook was originally published, I think we can all agree that it has been 'delayed' well past original expectations. I'm sure that no one would have intended this release schedule when the game was originally announced.

It is what it is. The economy is tough. There are a lot of factors, I am sure, beyond the control of any of the individual, well-meaning, hard-working people involved.

But one thing it certainly is, is "delayed.'"

Even if I choose to simply ignore the intermittent "official" comments regarding the what and the when of the DC Adventures line over the last year or two, once "Pre-Order Coming Soon!" was posted in the online store, I don't see think it's unreasonable for people to ask for a guideline on what "soon" means to GR...

Don't get me wrong... I'm thrilled H&V2 and the rest of the DC Adventures line is in the works and I'll buy the rest of the line whether it comes out later today or two years from now...

I also understand that Jon and the rest of the crew have very little control over certain aspects of production and the process will take as long as it takes... Giving even a tentative release date tends to get people riled up when it gets bumped, through no fault of anyone at GR... And no one wants to point fingers and say "it's the other guy's fault," especially if the other guy is someone you hope to do work with in the future... It'd be bad business and it'd be unprofessional, which would just hurt GR in the long run...

All that said, I know I'd personally prefer more communication from GR on the topic.

Having a picture of chicken marsala in a menu with a the words "Coming Soon!" written next to it doesn't mean my dinner is "late" or "delayed," certainly... I haven't been allowed to order it yet, so it can't be late, can it? But that doesn't mean I'm not hungry and it does imply that the waitstaff should probably be able to answer some of my basic inquiries about the future, gastronomic delight, should I question them.

Am I being unreasonable? I don't think so, but I'm biased.

Ending this on a positive note, I really do think the people GR are producing some excellent material that they should be proud to have their names on.

Thanks for the insight, Shadowchaser.

Yeah, I only used "delay" because that was what was stated in the quote I er, quoted, so I was asking that poster if it was his recollection from the round-table discussion was that the book was not out due to the things he stated, which he stated delayed the book. So, let us not use that word anymore, as no date was ever established in the first place! I don't feel it is late nor delayed. It is just not released yet! :)

I really love this series and have stated that on numerous occasions and threads that I think the GR staff have done a wonderful job and really work hard to give us this series. I really appreciate their dedication and attention to detail. The series would not be as great as it is if it was rushed or hurried along, so I do appreciate whatever time they dedicate and take in order to make it as near-to-perfect as they do! HH and H&V 1 were terrific and I know the next 2 editions will be as well! In fact, the last 2 books may be my favorites only because I think more of my favorite characters may be contained within them! But I know the quality will be the same great quality of the first 2 editions.

As you can tell from my posts, I am very even-keeled and never seek to say something to hurt someone or point a finger. I do ask questions so that I (and others) may benefit from the knowledge of how or why something is done or to learn the process that needs be done to better understand what goes into the process. This is why I asked about the "licensing issues" and the other word-of-which-we-do-not-speak, only to understand what was happening.

Still sitting patiently awaiting the day we hear that H&V Vol 2 PDF is released...............!!! :)

Excellent. Sounds like it really is on the last stretch before the finish line <insert desired caveat here>. :D

I know this isn't exactly on-topic, but I'm wondering... "Was there ever an updated PDF for Volume 1? (I mean an update to the PDF that came out before it went to the printer?) If so, I think I missed it!

I'd like to have the edited version that went to the printers. Where can I get that update?

It doesn't look like I have a version 1.1, so likely we don't have an updated copy.

I'll talk to Hal and see if we made many changes before it went to press. I think you may have found a task we need to take care of!
