I can't comment on Lodestone, but I always thought that Iron Maiden has a pretty interesting concept. It's not often that you get a armored martial artist.

Yes... YES!! I just had a Jobbergasm thanks to Iron Maiden AND Lodestone being statted one after the other. I need a cigarette :). Mucho props.

And it's funny- people whined at me when I didn't put Superboy-Prime on my list of Worst Comic Book Characters... Superboy-Prime offed Pantha, Baby Wildebeest and like TEN guys introduced during DC's awful "early '90s" period. The guy is like my personal living God after that. How the heck could I hate him?

saint_matthew wrote:Except that i didn't start with "You must be joking," i started with "You're kidding right?" There is nothing disrespectful with "you're kidding right." See how mine has a question mark at the end? That question mark denotes it as a question, rather then a statement.

LOL, really? That's like the exact same comment, to me. I can't imagine taking either comment differently from the other. They're as similar as Drax and Kratos to me :).

Except that i didn't dismiss what someone enjoys, i dismissed its objective technical qualities. See what Thorpacolypse said was "Batwing has been one of the stellar New 52 offerings IMHO". What Thorpacolypse didn't say was "i'm enjoying this Batwing book."

Technically, Thorp said that the book was great "IMHO", thus stating that it was his opinion, not a statement of fact that it was good. Having not read the book, I have no judgement on it.

But enough of nerd-semantics. I crave more builds of Jobbers!

I'm still not sure why the Sony lawsuit against Marvel never happened for that whole Kratos/Drax thing. Obvious total rip-off, but then again, there's 100 Superman clones flying around all the comic universes, so I suppose it would be have pretty fruitless.

More jobbers are coming although I am having one my trademark wishy washy moments and considering killing off both my threads and starting fresh now that I have a better idea of what the hell I am doing with this system or at least combining them again and making serious revisions to my existing builds. I think this whole move thing has me in total "fresh start" mode.

Plus, I am jealous of IK's fresh new thread and I am nothing if not a hack.

So I guess I will do a short J-Mart Customer Service survey. So you can express your opinions on 3 choices:

1) Blow it up and start fresh, Thorpo! Give us better quality merchandise and cut out the duplication!
2) Get over yourself, Thorpo, just clean up the J-Mart, move the Thorpacoverse builds here and make this a better store!
3) Leave well enough alone, Thorpo, and keep things as they are! And where the hell is Squirrel Girl?!?!?

And remember, by completing this survey, you have registered to win $.00000000000001 in Euros!

Because you can't Copyright a concept (if you could the creator of Zorro could have sued Bob Kane for creating Batman). You can tradmark a character, but a breach of trademark is not contrary to popular belief "your character has physical features in common with mine," nor is it "your character has narrative & conceptual features similiar to my own." Breach of tradmark is only an issue when you have one persons property coming so close to someone elses property in its entirety that people could easily mistake one property for the other & only if a judge looks at both properties & goes through the inidivual features of both products and determines it to be so.

just so you know :D

i would also hope that it would help with the whole chaining you to your computer so you can go about your building and posting continuosly........ just kidding , sorrta

I'd have to go with number 3 because I want to see Squirrel Girl! If we're not taking Squirrel Girl into account (which is a dangerous thing to do!) than I'd have to go with option 2.

Re: J-Mart: Iron Maiden, Lodestone and a Customer Survey

Postby Jabroniville » Thu Mar 01, 2012 10:26 pm

Copywrite law is insanely complicated in many cases, and you could probably find cases going either way around the same kind of concept. Captain Marvel is sorta-like Superman, but easily averts many likenesses, and yet DC sued Fawcett Comics in a long-running case over it, and basically won thanks to the latter running out of money. There was also a "Wonder Man" that debuted RIGHT after Action Comics #1 that got sued into oblivion immediately, and I think THAT guy was a blond! Yet the owners of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit never sued Walt Disney for cutting his ears short and calling him "Mickey Mouse" when he wanted to tell stories featuring his old creation.

I'm sure it comes down to "do they feel like suing over a minor third-tier character being redesigned to look like someone else?" and "do they have the money to sue?" more than anything.

Regarding J-Mart, I think having all the builds in one place would be fine. Hell, just post re-dos or whatever, and have multiple builds of each guy.

Entering my vote for Option 3.
Bad guy looks at small pistol by PC. Bad guy makes pistol with fingers.
Bad guy-¿"Bang"?.
PC shakes head gravely.
PC (quiet voice)-"Boom".
PC pulls trigger.
Bad guy gets vaporized.

How about option 4

4. Say something incredibly controversial & invite all of us more loud mouthed people to come & argue till Kit is forced to put on his Moderator hat & lock the thread... At which point you can combine your threads into one uber thread.

I'm joking, i swear.

I vote option 3. While I like J-Mart well enough and think you do a fine job with it and all your aisles and options and whatever, I love the Thorpacoverse. I like seeing how you fit everybody together with clear levels and comparisons and your personal spin.

Also Squirrel Girl, please.

I had less to blow up than you do. I can't really decide what my vote it is. Going through your builds and just editing them a little would be less work. But if you went for option 1 and started anew, I know I'd enjoy the huge explosion and creative renewal - a Big Bang of sorts, ha ha.

Of course, you've got two great threads going. You could always hit the start-over button on one while keeping or just editing the other. Whatever you decide, you've got a fan in me.

I'm with option 2, but seeing as how it's all 3e I really don't care. I've got the 2e stuff bookmarked however...
