Myron Frost: Mightiest Sorcerer in this Particular Room

Myron had been about to berate and belittle Ibn Daud for allowing his conjured creature to get away from him, for scattering them through the Prim, and other incompetent buffoonery unbecoming a Practitioner of the Arts. However, watching dispassionately as a vampire rips out his opponent's throat, Myron philosophically chooses to forgo the narration.

The Vampires were a genuine concern. Their preternatural speed made it conceivable they could threaten him physically before he could work his sorcery.

With one hand, Myron pulls his ascot from his neck, allowing the scarf to flutter in the air. The fluttering became a shimmer, and the white cloth became a golden glow. A moment later, Myron was holding a large, phantasmal cobra. With a hiss, the cobra instantly sinks its fangs into the side of Myron's throat. Immediately, the cobra is joined by other serpents, also golden and insubstantial. They writhe about his body, hissing and biting him. There is a steely rasp as Myron draws his brass short sword.
Myron activates his Gift of Serpents and draws his sword.

Jhondak
HP: 4

Jhondak didn't wait to see what the rest of the - whatever it was those things were - were going to do. One leaping at Owen was all he needed to see. He leapt at the closest group with his spear leading the way and his axe following close behind.

Spending a HP for Takedown. I'll take 10 on the attacks for a 19 total and Damage DC20 using Paired Weapons, taking out as many as possible and keep in mind he's got an extra 5 feet of reach.

Russ
HP: 1

The fanged things really unnerved Russ, especially after one of them got up after Owen had put a round in it. Daud's horrified screams didn't help the matter any either. Still, the gambler raised his pistols, trying to cover as many of the things as he could, ready to squeeze off a shot the moment any of them moved on the ka-tet.

Readying an action to shoot the first vampire to attack.

GM Post:

Jhondak plants his spear into the gut of one of the vampires, but the creatures seem to have very specific weaknesses. It doesn't fall to the attack and Jhondak has to hack into the creature's flailing arms to get it to back off.

OOC wrote:Toughness check: 1d20+6=23. The first one succeeds on his resistance check, so the Takedown doesn't trigger.

Since Jhondak doesn't kill the first one, he wouldn't have the option of using a Hero Point to take advantage of Takedown. He doesn't have to spend that point, though he could opt to use Extra Effort for an extra action and buy off the fatigue with the Hero Point instead.

GM Post:

While Jhondak has one of the vampires impaled on his spear, a second creature moves towards the former slave. Taking careful aim, Russ shoots the thing in the head. Blood squirts out of the thing's head like a packet of ketchup getting stabbed. The legs of the vampire turn wobbly and it collapses in a heap.

Toughness: 1d20+6=14.

The remaining vampires catch the smell of blood in the air and begin to move more aggressively towards the ka-tet, particularly towards the murderous Russ. Returning Russ's favor, Jhondak swings his axe at the back of the neck of one of the vampires that rushes past him. The blow completely removes the head of Jhondak's enemy. More of the creatures abandon their caution and leap at the Tarkeshite after, but they face a quick riposte. Jhondak hits one in the neck with his spear, severing the spine of his enemy. Next, he brings his axe down on the head of another, splitting the skull easily. He stuns a third with a backhand swipe with the handle of his axe and then chops through the creature's rib cage in a powerful cleave. The weapon carries through the bone and directly into the heart of the inhuman entity.

OOC wrote:Toughness: 1d20+6=11, 10, 7, 24. The fourth one, who was also the last in the range of attack, successfully resisted.

Owen

After Jhondak began slicing into the creatures and they began rushing the ka-tet, Owen fired at four of the attacking creatures, trying to bring down as many as he could.

So, whenever Owen comes up in the initiative order again:

GM Post:

Owen begins firing into the remaining vampires, blowing the head off of one of the undead.

OOC wrote:Toughness resistance checks here. Most of the enemies in the campaign will be Dodge/Parry-shifted, but these Type 1 vampires are fairly durable.

The remaining vampires circle the ka-tet and even the three feasting on Daud realize the danger of the walkers-in who entered their diner via sorcery. Forgetting their critically wounded prey, the three join the rest of their kind in leaping at the ka-tet.

OOC wrote:The vampires target the people who attacked them most effectively.

Attack rolls:
1-2 at Jhondak - 27, 26 (both hit)
3-4 at Russ - 27, 17 (both hit)
5 at Owen - 25 (hit)
6 at Myron - 13 (miss)

Any hits result in a DC 19 Toughness save. They are attacking with fists and superhuman strength. Anyone who is successfully damaged must also make a DC 14 Strength or Dodge check to avoid being grappled. Anyone caught in a grapple will be bit next round.

The two Can-toi pull out revolvers and fire at the two pistol-wielders, recognizing them as gunslingers.

OOC wrote:Attack rolls: 1d20+9=18, 27. They miss Owen but Russ needs to make a DC 18 Toughness check.

Jhondak
HP: 2
Condition: Injured 1

Seeing what had happened to Daud, Jhondak struggled ferociously to keep away from the grasping hands of the attacking beasts.

Toughness saves (1d20 + 5=25, 1d20 + 5=14) One success and a 1 degree failure.
Dodge vs grapple (1d20 + 9=10, 1d20 + 9=11) Well that's just... I'll reroll em both. With the +10, I'll automatically succeed on both.

Myron Frost

With the speed of a rattler in the badlands, Myron dances away from the Vampires claws. "These aren't the vampires, the grimoires I ken speak of. Perhaps I can arrange an introduction."

A safe distance from the melee, Myron chants and gestures, a supplication to Fthaggua, Vampire Lord of the Elder Gods. Blue fire springs to life on his dancing fingers, it rages and growls. Then, at his gesture, flies at the Vampire that most recently attacked him.

GM Post:

The blue flame strikes the vampire and it screams in terror for a few seconds before its flesh rapidly disintegrates until nothing is left but a pile of dust. The flame nearly jumps to the next nearest vampire but falls just short of the target, burning the flooring.

Russ
HP: 3 -> 0 CND: -1 Toughness

Even after seeing what they did to Daud Russ was caught off guard by the speed of the vampires. He barely managed to sidestep their clawed hands and although one of them raked it's talons across his arm, it didn't get a good hold of him.

As Russ clutched his fresh wound he moved just barely enough that the shot of the Can-Toi only went through his sleeve, instead of his hand, proving that the gambler was as intimately familiar with Lady Luck as he boasted.

DC 19 Toughness saves (1d20+3=9, 1d20+3=10)
It occurs to me that Russ has Luck 1 (that I forgot to note on his HP total) and I haven't spent any Hero points this chapter so I'll burn those to re-roll those abysmal rolls.
Re-rolls (1d20+3=13, 1d20+3=7) Both get +10 for being under 11 on the re-roll for final rolls of 23 and 17, a success and one degree of failure.
DC 14 Dodge Save (1d20+7=21)
DC 18 Toughness save (1d20+3=5) Forgot the -1 Toughness from the previous failure so that's a 4.
Just saw in the OOC-thread I get a third HP, burning that to re-roll the last Toughness.
DC 18 Toughness Save (1d20+3-1=8)+10=18.

Jhondak
HP: 2
Condition: Injured 1, Fatigued next turn

Just getting away from the grasping hands, Jhondak continued his assault on their attackers, slashing at one with his axe while stabbing at the other with his spear. Then, he eyed the two gun-wielders who had joined the fight.

I'll Power Attack for 1 and take 10 on the Attacks for 18 total and use Split on the Damage. It'll be DC18 on each. Then I'll Extra Effort to surge and attack either one if they're still standing. If not, I'll move to the Can-Toi and use Split attack again with the same configuration, 18 attack and DC18 damage.

Owen
Conditon: -1 toughness penalty

Owen forgot about the threat posed by the Can-toi for a moment as he focused on the vampiric creatures, but when they shot at him and Russ, his attention was re-focused on the Low Men. The gunslinger wheeled around and fired at both of the gun-wielders.

I'm assuming for now that they're minions, so I'm taking a routine attack check, but I'll roll if need be: 10+10-2(for Multi-attack on two targets)=18 (DC 19 toughness save)

Oh, also, I've completely lost track of how many HP Owen has, but I believe it's something like 5...

Russ
HP: 0 CND: -1 Toughness

Russ struggled to put as much distance between himself and the vampires as he could. As he did, he raised a pistol in his free hand to put a bullet in the head of the nearest monster.

Routine attack on the nearest vampire still standing, Power Attack 2 for 10+11-2=19, DC 20 Toughness.
