As for what I'd like to see, I think I'd like to see a book on the "Ages" of the DC Universe, giving us alternate statblocks for some of the key characters. Seeing Batman statted out as he appeared in his earliest appearances, the 50's, 60's, 70's, and so on would be a fun resource for me. Same for Superman and the other 'focal' characters in the setting. Of course, I can write these up myself, but I think it'd be cool to see an official product tackle at least some of the variants of important characters. :)

Just pie-in-the-sky dreaming, of course. If I *really* had my 'druthers', I'd want a whole 1985 sourcebook with all the characters as I remember them! Especially the Teen Titans.

Yeah, I think this would be my 'druthers' as well.

Marvel has done this in the past with their old MSHRPG where various versions of characters were profiled. And with the system they used, even small differences looked large (Ex RM (30) vs AM (50)). Although I am sure the DC 50's versions, mighty as they were, would not compare to the modern builds.

And the 1985 Sourcebook characters would be awesome as well!

Dang, Shadowchaser, now I really want these to come out....

Shadowchaser then you probably would like the way I did Marvel characters. I did the iconic build for spider-man and then built them originally and any changes needed I note that like 'teen Peter' and the fact it took a +13 science/tech bonus to create those webshooters so that is what I set Teen Peter to (5 int, 8 skill ranks) and put thought into the evolution of the character too.

I also did DC characters
Then for Batman I use the original official one but give options like if you want a more Arkham Asylum or movie version of batman you'd drop ranks in defensive roll and add the costume with its protection and the cape that has gliding flight and the fact his costume grants him an improved critical (unarmed) bonus. Same deal with Cap. He has defensive roll ranks but if you want his costume I designed it and list it. You simply need to swap it out and adjust. If you want him to have the avengers Identicard, it is listed. Or if you want Batman with his communication link to Oracle, I list that option.

Ah, thought I'd started a topic on this a while back....

I had something worth saying, so thought I'd bump this old topic and see if it kicked up some interest.

So, after Vol 2 comes out, how much of a gap in time can we expect for DC Universe? I'm only asking here because, once Vol 2 is out, this thread becomes obsolete, and Universe would be the next expectation for DC fans.

Also, wil Universe reflect any of the changes made by the New 52 reboot? Specifically, since the Wildstorm imprint has now become an official part of the DCU, will any Wildstorm characters pop up in Universe?

And if not, considering how much content and characters Wildstorm has under its belt, could this maybe pave the way for something like an expansion book? Especially if sales go well for the DCU RPG?

Let's see if there were additional material it would be 2014 before it came out.

Ummm... So no new posts in this thread in something like seven months wasn't a good enough indicator that it was "obsolete" already...?

As I recall, Jon has mentioned more than once that the legalese doesn't allow for Wildstorm or Milestone characters. New 52, maybe... But I can't imagine it would be much more than a footnote, as it doesn't contribute a lot to the tone of "iconic" write-ups.

This I could see as possible, but as Foreshadow pointed out, I wouldn't count on seeing anything in the near future... The face of multiple companies, the RPG industry in general, and the national and world economies could do flip-flops in that time frame... It'd just be wild speculation...

Oh whoops. The "obsolete" comment was meant more for the Heroes & Villains Vol 2 topic. I put that post there, thinking at the time of that topic, then copied/pasted here without thinking.

If I had to pick a 'book 5' then a DC Animated Universe sourcebook would be brilliant.

The prospect of a 5th book seems highly improbable to me, and when I first read through this old thread just now, I couldn't think of any topic I felt would merit one anyway.

But when I got to this suggestion (quoted above) from The One Phil last September, I thought to myself, "THAT would be great."

But as I see it, hoping for a 5th book in this series would be a lot like hoping George Lucas might still make a sequel to Return of the Jedi, with the original cast. Both are theoretically possible, I suppose...

I'd love to see follow-up material for DCA, such as threat reports, or some mini-adventures written by DC authors...but it does deem unlikely.

Ya know....this thread was made With the hope that people, FANS of the DCU and M&M, would go crazy with their ideas and opinions based on "What IF" there were more books. Not to defeat that idea by saying repeatedly, over and over that "it's not likely gonna happen". If enough fans ask for it, beg for it, shout for it, and the right people see it, it could change things. At the very least, kicky pinterest for those threat reports and adventures.

Instead, it seems like the fans want to defeat themselves.

Speaking only for myself, I didn't reply pessimistically in order to be self-defeating. I did so in part because, from the outside, it does seem so supremely unlikely. Endorsing a specific idea for a 5th book that intrigued me (i.e. a book on the DC Animated Universe), which I did, without acknowledging that unlikelihood (and before the 4th book was even published), would, I thought, make me appear unrealistic and maybe a little deluded; not merely 'enthusiastic.' But that's just my thought process as applied to me.

This statement is probably true in the strictest sense. But I'd personally be skeptical that it would be true as applied to support expressed in this forum alone. Expressing support here certainly wouldn't hurt, however, and could conceivably ignite broader enthusiasm, I suppose.
