Despite having been on a shelf for almost 3 years is pretty damn good

Just saw it. WELL worth the $7 ticket. Will definitely be buying this when it comes out on Blu-Ray, and I don't even like slasher movies.

It was damned good. Also Bradley Whitford had the most awesome death ever.

On the fence whether I'll end up renting this on demand or from Redbox, or just wait until it hits cable.

I was tipped to one spoiler, which there is a real downer of an ending.

If I can ask, what kinds of monsters dwell in the "woods"-I've read there is a "redneck zombie family", winged demons, and a malevolent unicorn (!?).

Is the film a big creatures feature?

All my best.

The impression I'm getting is its a psyche movie with hallucinogenic gases and holograms, or something like that.

So I'm guessing the scientist types shown in the trailers are manipulating the monsters against the protagonists for some reason?

Is this just a "meta-fiction" thing or is there an explanation for how scientists control monsters and the like?

I wouldn't say they're controlled. Contained would be a better word.

The movie doesn't delve into a lot of back story. It explains its premise, but doesn't go much deeper than that. And really, that's okay. It's not really the focus of the film. The focus is on what happens to this group of young people and how they're manipulated into something sinister.

I wouldn't say that. If someone would come away from this movie truly bummed out over what happened to the protagonists, I'd be surprised. The movie is a whirlwind, and then it ends, leaving you with memories of funny quips ("I'm on speaker phone, aren't I?" ) and ridiculous monster action.

I'd just say quit reading about the movie and go watch it (or simply don't read about it until you can). This is one of those things you won't get much appreciation for from hearing or reading about it, and I imagine every detail you glean in that way will only lessen the impact of the movie when you finally do see it.

It's the movie equivalent of Dr. Psycho. An awesome villain that is impossible to describe in any way that doesn't make him sound lame as all hell.

I really liked this movie and found it thoroughly entertaining. One question though, did anyone else think that Marty (the stoner) looked almost exactly like Shaggy from Scooby Doo?

Is it now? I'm usually not into the visual guidebooks they release for movies, but I may have to make an exception for this one. Do they go into any more detail about some of the monsters or any of the back story?
A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

I just got it yesterday, so havent had a lot of time to look at it. It has the script. it has lots of interviews. it has lots of photos. Lots of photos and concept drawings of monsters.

I did get that impression when I saw it with my fiancee. I half expected the end to be pulling a mask off and going with "I'd have gotten away with it weren't that kid on reefer!"

I found the pool they run amusing too, especially the explanation of how the monsters are different.
