Saw it on Wednesday, and can honestly say it's the best of the new Marvel movies to date and I can't wait until Avengers 2!

Joss Whedon has really pulled it all together in this one, every single character gets enough dialogue and action to be fleshed out as actual characters, Hawkeye, Black Widow especially get some really great moments much to my relief (after their seeming relegation to "this is a reference for the fans" status as S.H.I.E.L.D agents in previous movies), Nick Fury finally gets to step up and Maria Hill even gets involved but would be the most minor of those characters this time around.

As for the action and the big 4? Brilliant. Perfectly ties in the characters from where they were in their respective films to a natural binding as a team and a transformation into actual heroic Supers for some, each character is allowed time to both develop and then to kick serious ass and Mark Ruffalo does everything with Dr. Bruce Banner that Norton and Bana missed with the big green guy having some truly epic moments.

As with every Whedon, the dialogue and action is constantly spiced with comedy, but not in any way that detracts from the tension, drama and explosive moments.

The teaser clip mid-credits had me fist pumping with over-excitement for the sequel.

I'm seeing it again tomorrow.

Enjoy!

It comes out on my birthday next week, so it's bugging the everlovin' crap out of me that the rest of the world gets to see it before me.

It isn't often that Australia gets anything at the same time as the US, let alone first, so I'm justifiably excited with this opportunity to see Avengers a half dozen times before the "official release"

Absolutely. Not begrudging you that at all. It was just nicely timed enough that I felt a little special...

Found out one of my local theatres is doing a Marvel Move Marathon, starting at 2:20pm Thursday they'll show Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor (in 3D), and Captain America (in 3D), leading up to The Avengers (in 3D) at 12:01am, for $35 ($7/movie, not bad). I may see about doing that.

For anyone who doesn't know yet, AMC Theaters and Cinemark are both hosting marathons at several of their locations:

AMC Marathon - $40, starts at 11:30 a.m.
Cinemark Marathon - $20, starts at noon.

Several locations are sold out already, so if you're serious about going you might want to lock up your ticket now.

In related news, The Avengers is currently hovering at the 95-96% mark over at Rotten Tomatoes, and the way the movie is tracking, it might possibly break the 3-day opening record.

After finding a page with a comprehensive timeline, and letting a few newbies borrow the movies and getting feedback, I think the best viewing order, and the closest to chronological order, is:

1. Captain America
2. Iron Man
3. Iron Man 2
4. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer (short film on the Captain America Blu-ray)
5. Thor
6. The Incredible Hulk [Ed Norton version]
7. The Consultant (short film on the Thor Blu-ray)
8. The Avengers

I took the day off from school next Thursday for one of those marathons. i wish the films were shown in a different order, but it will still be amusing. last year I did the 2 day Harry Potter marathon. That was intense.

That sounds awesome, and I'm not even much of a Potter fan. I've never been to one of these marathons before; which theater chain was it? We're going to the AMC one, and I'm worried about dinner breaks and wondering what time to be there to get a decent seat. I don't want to sit in the first row of a theater for 15 hours.

Heh. Well, the ending of Iron Man 2 ties into the ending of the Incredible Hulk (Tony as consultant), but the stinger ties into Thor ("We found a magic hammer!"). It could go either way, but the Hulk needs to be in there somewhere.

I expected it wouldn't be possible to really have everyone shine in just a couple hours, but was pleasantly surprised! The movie really manages to get everyone their time in the spotlight, everybody got awesome feats and so on. The effects and fights are amazing and there are some great lines and hilarious moments.
The internet made this word lose a lot of its impact, but it was truly awesome, in that I was actually awed several times during the movie.
The traditional post-credits clip has me really stoked too.

By my count, DC is far ahead of Marvel in the cartoons, but as far as live action movies are concerned, Marvel was already in the lead and Avengers just put them beyond reach for now. I doubt even the next Dark Knight will top Avengers and with the villain hinted at for the next Avengers movie, I expect great things for the sequel.
Not interested so far in the new Spiderman movie, though.

To be perfectly honest, what they pulled off with The Avengers makes me wish they could get the rights back for the rest of the Marvel characters to give them a chance at a real movie continuity instead of the separate properties that currently exist.

(Nick Fury, Jnr. happening in the 616 Universe makes me very sad though.)
