I've heard the American release has two stingers (one mid-credits, one post), compared to the one mid-credits scene the Australian and European audiences got.

I am thoroughly impressed. It would've been one heck of a job to balance the screen times on the characters and make them all stand out like that. It was a movie that wasn't just made for the money- it felt like it was made by the fans, for the fans.

Definitely seeing Avengers again in the theaters. This is pretty much the superhero movie I've wanted to see since I first started reading comics. It may not win any awards, and it may require too much homework for some critics, but this movie absolutely deserves the massive box office sales it is going to get.

(Speaking of which, my local theater had Avengers showing on every screen. I'm not sure if every showing sold out, but it looked damned close.)

I liked it, but had issues with it

I haven't seen it, but I've been surprised by just how positive the reviews have been.

I've thought the movies so far have generally been average or better, and when I heard early on that Joss Whedon was involved, I thought this movie could have some real potential... And maybe I haven't been watching closely enough, but I really figured I'd hear more people mention what they didn't like about the movie...

I'm skeptical by nature, but I really do wanna believe they actually pulled it off...

I'd be interested in what those are, I found it basically flawless, but then I'm also not a big comics nerd either, so I may be a little more forgiving.

On some yahoo comment areas there are apparently some people making a huge deal about "the Avengers" not being entirely the original line-up, which seems a bit TOO purist to me (but whatever).

Another gripe I've heard is "too much talking", which is basically a complaint any hero flick that tries to be more than just mindless popcorn action scenes gets. The Dark Knight got these complaints from some too.

There have also been complaints about Caps outfit in this film. Some folks prefer the Cap movie costume and some folks think they messed-up both.

A few folks I've heard from expressed their displeasure over the movie being what they call "a generic alien invasion thing".

I can't speak much to the validity of any of these complaints (I promised my younger brother I wouldn't watch the film until I come home next week and we can go see it together), but those are the ones I've heard.

I fall into the camp of preferring the Captain America costume from his movie but that's hardly something that takes away from the film.

I felt it was [possible spoiler] a really good combo of the Avengers comic, with nods to the Ultimate Avengers and even the initiative.[/spoiler] Okay, not much of a spoiler but I don't want to get myself flamed...

Oh and the mid credit stinger? Spec-TAC-ular !

I dunno, the end credits stinger was -way- better IMO ;)

Loved it. Only a couple of issues really, I thought, but I will not address them here. People are always looking for something negative in things and I am not falling into that this time. By and large, they nailed it.

I thought they gave everyone a chance to shine, everyone got some funny lines (Downey got the most, but we all knew that was coming), everyone got to kick a little ass, Samuel L. Jackson played Fury PERFECTLY and Maria Hill was not a bitch. Amazing. And The Hulk stole the show. They got him right, for once. Going back to Thor last year and now this movie gives me some hope for Man of Steel next year because they showed that a mega powerful character can be epic but be engaging and show enough humanity to be interesting.

And best of all there was a nice 30 second shot of Black Widow facing AWAY from the camera in her costume. That was worth the price of admission right there. 8)

Amazing Spider-Man and Dark Knight Rises are going to have to come STRONG to compare. Thank goodness I have Battleship in between to bring me down some before those other flicks.

While I still think the movie is the best superhero movie I've seen so far, bonus points for managing to properly highlight a bunch o heroes in a single movie, I do have a few mild complaints here and there. Nothing that really detracted from the overall quality of the movie, though

1) I liked both uniforms for Cap, but I liked the one from his own movie more.
2) Hawkeye's uniform, on the other hand, would be better in my opinion if it was closer to his comic book version. I missed the cowl in particular.
3) It may be just an impression, but it seemed to me that both Cap and Thor where more muscular in their respective movies. Thor was still quite strong, though, so I just wanted Cap to be a bit more physically imposing.
4) Compared to the other protagonists, Johansson's acting leaves a bit to be desired in this movie, especially considering she can do better. They could also have given Black Widow a bigger gun or some more efficacious thing installed in her widow's Bite bracelet or something. She seems kind of helpless at times.

Broke down and saw the movie... Wasn't disappointed.

It was as good as I could have reasonably hoped... Not 100% flawless, but I'd give it 4½ out of five stars.

Considering the potential complexity of the characters and issues involved, it could've been split up over two or three movies and not been as good... My hat's off to Joss Whedon... Absolutely beautifully done. 8)
