Spider-Girl
HP- 1
Condition: Arriving Just in Time

Spidey swings around a corner, taking in the situation at a glance.

'Okay, fire first before it spreads.'

She releases her grip on the webline and flips over the burning truck, avoiding the thick, evil-looking purple smoke. As she arcs over the truck, her hands point downwards releasing a spray of webbing that forms a thick blanket over the flames.

She lands nimbly next to the blue and gold clad woman, throwing both arms into the air as she does.

"Ta-daa!"

(using create object 8 from web array to attempt smothering the fire.)

"BE SILENT" Roared Lorelei, clashing the end of her trident against the floor, the force enough to crack the tiling. The blow reverberated through the chamber, the sound of metal on stone ringing above the many voices. Even in the face of this attack, Lorelei strove to keep her face calm and unprotroubed. Only the strength with which she clenched the trident, the steely gaze she held, and the slight trembling of her muscles betrayed the rage which burned just below the surface. Lorelei longed to give chase to the would be assassin, to strike him down and drag him back to answer for his crimes. But it was not what she knew she must do. Leaving the council memebers alone to debate among themselves was a far more dangerious prospect than a lone individual who'd sought to take the queens life. Her eyes fell on Namor "Admiral, take a detachment of guards. The assalent came from there" Lorelei gestured to where she'd seen movement in the isntant before the attack. "Go, catch them, and bring them to the holding cell."

Leaving Namor to deal with the fleeing perpetrator, for the time being, Lorelei returned her attention to the council. What would follow would prove a challenge. She needed to speak, both with reason and passion, yet without letting her anger spill over. "Kaldur'ahm, your point is not without merit. We are the superior species, yes. And the surface world is indeed ignorant of a great many things. I will not deny the truth to your claims. But you leap to action without fully understanding what it is you suggest."

Rising from my seat, I begin to slowly walk down from the platform, and onto the main floor of the chamber, walking among those gathered. "Let us imagine that we were to launch an assault upon the surface. Our armies still recover from the civil war which rocked the kingdom. So, we were to launch this attack, even being at reduced strength. And outnumbered as well. The Land dwellers are nothing if not numerous. We attack them, and no doubt, will be met with resistance, but ultimately, we gain some land upon the surface. Land which, I would add, we would have to occupy with a sizable force if we are to hold any chance of keeping it, and the surface dwellers will no doubt try and reclaim what was there's."

The queen kept her pace calm and level, only rising her tone when she needed to emphasize a point. Slowly, she drew closer to Kaldur'ahm, but did not look at him directly, instead her gaze feel on the other council members. "The other nations of the surface would of course, rally against us. They would fear for their own safety, once they see Atlantis on the warpath. The Surface dwellers ranks shall swell. Even as we work to expand the territory we control, our numbers would only decrease. Perhaps we gain ten miles of coast land. Or a Hundred Miles, Or a thousand even. We would eventually reach a point where we can go no further, were we lack the numbers needed to press the advance. Spread so thin, our soldiers would die in skirmishes and raids along the border of our new territory. In time, we would be weakened to the point where we need fall back. Like the tide itself, we would have to retreat to the sea. The surface dwellers, emboldened by their victory, would press the advance, and their armies would come to our doorstep, where we would wait, no longer having the means to drive them back, because our strength was squandered as we tried to force our rule over them. Faced with this, our people would ether be forced to surrender, or perish ourselves." At last, Lorelei stood before Kaldur'ahm, and looked him in the eye "We may be the mightiest nation on this planet, but our power is not so great as to wage a war on all sides against the surface dwellers. If we did, would we not have done so already?"

Looking out again to the crowd, Lorelei spoke again "But I may be wrong. Perhaps we indeed are so far superior that the surface dwellers would crumble under our advance. Perhaps our might would spread till all corners of the globe are held under our flag. Then what? What would we have gained? Land? Vast stretches of dry , empty wilderness, much of it lacking any water at all, or otherwise useless to our needs. Resources? Metals and ores and stone, all of it inferior to that which we already have managed to create here in the sea. Slaves? A mass of 7 billion surface dwellers, who suddenly we must manage, who we must cloth and feed and look after. Who cannot breath water, and lack the strength to match that of our peoples children. Our own economy would shatter trying to turn any useful ends from the surface dwellers." Lorelei paused a moment, before concluding "Even if we succeed at conquering them, we would gain nothing of value. Through peace, however, we can call on them to do our bidding without need of force, or wars. The most influential man on the surface world agreed to every term I set forth in the treaty, and I need only promise in return to not attack them. In an afternoon, through diplomacy, I was able to gain more than we could achieve through six months of open war."

Ground Zero

Cold Iron tries to identify the chemical compound, but Higgins informs her that it does not match any known chemical configuration in the databanks. It begins listing the percentages of the chemicals, but it makes little sense to Cold Iron. All she can tell is it complicated, and not your run of the mill chemical.

Spider-girl meanwhile manages to keep the fire from spreading to near by buildings, but her webbing can not smother the main fire fast enough before catching fire itself, still even doing that much will save many lives, and make the job far easier for the fire fighters if they can arrive.

Many of the near by civilians begin coughing and falling to their knees...

Aquawoman

The young boy swallows his anger, and bows to the Queen before departing peacefully, but Lorelei can still see the hate in the bot, and knows he is not satisfied. The rest of the noblemen begin to filter out, leaving the Queen with some sparse guards, as the majority of her forces are combing for the assassin.

A few hours later, the Admiral returns to you to report the man who attempted regicide had escaped. "We have also question all of the noblemen who were in attendance, they all claim they saw nothing. My Queen, may I suggest you double the guard and patrols? There may be more men out there looking to strike you down." The Admiral paused for a moment, "It is possible that the boy is in league with the killer, he purposely made a spectacle to keep your attention while he struck... but it could also be that the killer simply saw an opening. What would you have us do? Shall we bring him in for... stern questioning?"

"Increase the guard, but leave Kaldur'ahm be for now." Lorelei answered, sounding a bit weary, the long day beginning to catch up with her. "There are more than enough with a motive and the means to arrange for an assassin, and the council chamber is always filled with long winded speeches. Its easy enough to believe his involvement was confidential. Have him watched covertly, for the time being, in case I am mistake an he is involved." Lorelei paushed for a moment, then had a thought. "I assume someone has taken the knife in as evidence? Was anything uncovered?"

Sekhmet

Her appointment went as most others did, but this time the receptionist raised an eyebrow as she wheeled herself in.

"Well, I must say Miss Adam, She began, immediately drawing the yound woman's attention, "It is not everyone who draws the attention of the Wayne Foundation. I have a note here that indicates that the Foundation will be taking care of your expenses."

She continued reading, perhaps a little disappointed that said payment would not, however, continue at this clinic.

"It also says that after today's session, your file it to be transferred to a Dr. Lesley Thompkins. Well, I must say that if there is even the slightest hope of recovery, then you are likely to find it there!"

The last was genuine, or at least Thea felt that it was without the aid of Zehuti. She smiled warmly, wondering why the Wayne Foundation would suddenly take an interest in her. She of course assumed it had something to do with Stark Enterprise, but the two companies were rivals on so many levels. Then again, knowing Stark was Iron Widow made it easy to leap to the notion that she might front through Wayne to avoid any obvious link to Thea...

The therapy itself was pretty routine. Thea would try to give encouraging smiles and look appropriately dubious and hopeful at the comments. She would suppress a smile of mirth when the electrodes delivered mild shocks to her legs and spine in an effort to stimulate a response. Each time, the briefest hint of Amon's strength would course through her, and her legs would occasionally twitch as a result. The doctors' attempt to conceal their surprise and play down the possibilities would be perhaps less noticeable if she didn't know why her legs answered the low voltage probes...

Later, she found herself near the bank, enjoying the afternoon sun with Mina and some other friends. As luck would have it, of course, a group of armed robbers stormed the bank.

People still do that? She thought to herself, wondering why they would bother when there was no way that the police would not be called or show up - or worse for them, a superhero or six. But then she caught site of a platinum blonde woman, faux fur around her shoulders, a jockey's whip in her hand, a pair of boots that drew attention away from the fact that she could run something fierce...

"Mina." She whispered to her friend, "I need to change. NOW."

Mina nodded, moving the chair and pulling back into the crowd. She effectively separated herself from the rest of their group and quickly lost them in an effort to get Thea out of open view of the crowd. She called back for Mina to get to safety and began to guide the wheels of her chair with expert precision into an alley. She glanced quickly around to make sure she wasn't being watched. With three quick pushes caused the chair to move forward and she quickly pulled back, causing herself to lurch forward. As she cleared the chair, she called out to the Sorceress in an even, firm tone.

"Shazam!"

The magic lightning struck before she hit the ground, and she righted herself, taking to the sky in a black blur.

She alighted in front of the bank, sirens already rapidly approaching.

"I don't know what you think you were planning." She called out to the occupants of the bank, hands on her hips in an appropriately confident/ arrogant superheroic stance... "But this ends now. Easy way, hard way is your choice. But you only get one warning, if anyone is harmed in any way, we automatically jump to the hard way."

Sirens abruptly halted, replaced for the briefest second by screeching tires. The sound of sidearms and other weapons loading signalled that her backup had arrived, but Sekhmet still waited for a response from inside. She contemplated a surgical strike - crash through walls or windows and pull out whoever she could in and repeat until all were in custody, but she knew that there was a player that could move as fast as, if not faster, than she could.

Abruptly, she realized the ruse. Blitz would never openly attack - she fancied herself a manipulator and would not steal money in this way - besides, a bank was a horrible thing to rob in the modern era... too little actual cash, too many ways to taint it.

The sound of a shout from a pawn shop confirmed what she was thinking, a cloud of dust in the rapidly escaping footsteps of her rival a slap in the face.

Sekhmet's hands fell to her sides and clenched involuntarily, turning back to the immediate threat of the hostage takers, a police officer rested a hand on her shoulder. Her gaze fell to a group of people, iPhones and the like in hand.

"We have this. There are reports of an explosion, they could use your help Marvelous.

Zehuti felt that the eagerness of the officer was too quick to dismiss her aid, and so she returned to her original plan of removing the suspects. Not bothering to confront or wait for the leader to make any statement, she clamped her hand down hard on whatever switch he held to prevent it from going off and dragged him out into the open while the hostages were rescued...

The situation in hand, she leapt skyward. The officer's motives for urging her on would wait for another day.

This doesn't quite follow Hound's segue for Sekhmet, but I started writing this three days ago... And yes. I cribbed Hancock... kind of a wuss out on my part, but I didn't expect to be brought back into the action so quickly, and didn't want to throw away the rest of the post...

Spider-Girl
HP-1
Condition: Determined.

"Okay, that bought a few minutes. Time for us to get people out of here ASAP."

Turning to the cars behind her, she quickly finds what she needs. Rushing to a stopped cargo van, she pulls the door open. 'Great. It's empty.'

Looking back at the coughing people, she yells, "Come on, everyone into the van. Those of you who can help those who can't make it. Quick like bunnies, people. Hop, hop, hop."

She begins assisting people into the van.

(Unloaded cargo van is 3-3.5 tons. 10-15 people should be another ton and a half or so. When the van is full, Spidey's going to carry it to a safer place with her 8 strength.)

"The forging of the knife is not Atlantian, nor is the poison used." The admiral answered, his tone was serious, but factual, like he was reading a ingredients on the back of a cereal box, "But that could mean many things. The knife's condition and making suggests it has not been in the ocean for long, nor was it made to be. The poison was deadly, only a scratch and you could have died or been put into a vegetative state. Despite the fact a knife of equal or superior quality could be forged here, and a similar just as deadly poison, the assassin choose land made items. For what purpose I do not know."

Ground Zero

Spider-girl only gets one or two people into the van before they all drop to their knees, their skin begins to turn purple, and their muscles begin to bulge and grow at incredible rate. The sound of cloth ripping fills the area as people begin to double in size and mass, looking something very akin to the Hulk, only more purple.

One of the people that Spider-girl tried to help takes a wide swing at the teen, who leaps easily out of the way.

As people finish transforming, some begin smashing cars, or buildings, some begin fighting each other...

Listening to her Admiral, Lorelei nodded as he concluded. She did not answer for a few moments, as her mind turned the matter over, looking at it from different angles. She did, however, reach a conclusion fairly quickly. "Keep it sealed so as to avoid contamination. I will have to bring it to the surface and see if there is any more information to be gleaned from it there. Richards would likely be able to make some sense of it. Failing that there is also The Bat" Lorelei greatly hoped that Richards would be able to yield a result, since the atlantean queen would much rather spend time in the company of an elastic scientist, than with the ill understood vigilante detective.

Goldie Bluestar

Mikhala hovers in space for a few seconds, trying to prioritize what she should do first. She had just settled on the truck, when the grey-metal battlesuit flew off with the cab of the thing. She was about to turn her attention to the next task, but... no. "Hey, Skeets? Follow that uh, truck-cockpit thing. I think we'll want to talk to the crew, so don't let them run off."

Alright... Skeets told her the purple mist was dangerous, but that wasn't exactly a shocker. The grey battlesuit had taken the cab, but left the rest of it... and it was still farting up a purple storm.
Spider Girl wrote:She lands nimbly next to the blue and gold clad woman, throwing both arms into the air as she does.

"Ta-daa!"

Goldie nods distractedly. "How awesome for you. We got lots to do yet." With that, Goldie scooped up the last of the still smoking van with a force-beam from her gauntlet, and dragged it off into the sky. But... now that I've got it, what to do with it? Hudson river? Those poor fishies... She was gratified to see Spider Girl (absolutely had to be her... but real young) leap back into action. Meanwhile, she dragged the wrecked van above the skyline.

"Hey, Skeets? Where can I dump a cargo van full of toxic crap?"
"The most ecologically responsible place would be a quarry. I'll get you some coordinates. Can you be more specific about your instructions about the van's driver and passenger?"
"Yeah. Give'em medical attention if they need it, and shock them until they twitch if they try and bugger off." Goldie got the coordinates for a (hopefully) abandoned gravel pit outside of town, and she turned on the jets to get there. She debated burying the van in gravel, but hopefully it would be remote enough to be safe.

Meanwhile, on a nearby Rooftop...
A small, gold-coloured robot addressed the Heroine known as Cold Iron. "Pardon me, adventurer! My mistress, the illustrious Bluestar asked me to assist you with these men. I will provide them medical assistance, and keep them from straying too far, should the authorities need to question them."

The robot offers something like a digital greeting as well, a ping of data, similar to an ISP. Cold Iron is fairly sure she could rig something to track the robot through the information the little bot just sent her -clearly a sign of good faith.

Lorelei had little time to relax before several of her advisers paid her a visit. Kaini, Gill, Ciphon, and Hagen, all approached the Queen. "Your highness." Ciphon was the one to speak, "Many of your loyal subjects are... fearful for your safety. It might be a good idea to make a public deceleration of your well being, and your intent to hunt this vile assassin down." The tall, handsome man smiled, "Rumors of peace with the surface dwellers is spreading, combine that with assassination attempts, the people are scared and confused. They need your strength, they need their Queen to show them the light."

Before the Queen could reply, her communicator given to her by Iron Widow turned on, the device was still hidden with in the Queen's ear so no one else in the room heard it.

"Aquawoman, this is Director Fury. We have a serious problem in New York, some sort of Chemical Spill is turning citizen's into mini-hulk like creatures. They are throwing cars like rag dolls, we need some big guns like you to hold them down while we work on a cure. I already have a dozen of the world's top minds working on the project. We need your help, I have a Quinn Jet hovering at the surface directly above your Kingdom waiting for you. If those Purple Mini-hulks arn't contained fast, they could kill millions."

Cold Iron
HP: 1
CND: That's not good...

Downstairs was not looking good. While the unknown hero had flown the truck out of the theater (perhaps intelligently, perhaps not....), Spider-girl was at the heart of the matter, and for the second time that day Johanna was cursing the fact that she hadn't pushed Annette on the whole Hulkbuster issue.

"Higgins, set me up a battle protocol for..." she couldn't even finish the thought when the hero's pet artificial intelligence floated over.
Skeets wrote:

"Johanna, this robot just pinged the Mark III's computer. It doesn't appear to be of hostile intent. Shall I engage the heavy security protocols?"

Well. That was interesting. Something for later though. "No Higgins, not right now, I want your processing power in the here and now."

She turned her attention to the small robot, "You want to be of assistance? Find out what they know, keep them safe. Don't let them leave unless their lives are in imminent danger. We need to know what they know."

Quickly she looked down onto what would soon become a full blown battle. "I hope your friend knows how to handle herself. This isn't a place for amateurs."

She engaged her repulsor jets and let the combat computer mark the visible targets. This could get messy.

Condition: Not unlike the Alamo

Spidey realizes with a start that she's in the middle of a crowd of enraged, purple mini-hulks.

'Oh, great. There's that old 'Parker Luck' for you.

'Oh well, a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do. If I can keep them focussed on me, maybe they won't go after anyone else...'

"Hey, grape-faces. Looks like someone dropped a whole load of ugly sticks in here..."

Striving to catch the attention of the transformed victims, Spidey begins a dazzlingly graceful series of tumbling dodges.

Lorelei listened to Ciphon. He made good points, which was itself concerning. Ciphon was never one to look out for the common good, or for anyone, except himself. His advise always came with an ulterior motive. So, the fact that he was making clear and concise points which Lorelei agreed with, was a matter of suspect. She couldn't figure his angle on this.

Then there was Fury, jumping in, requesting aid. Millions of people dying was an awful prospect to consider. Certainly Lorelei could do better good there than here, putting out minor fires and making speeches. But she could not be seen running off at such a delicate stage. Something will have to be done.

"I agree with you Ciphon, the people need answers. But right now, I have little to offer them." Lorelei answers, standing. "I have to go to the surface, there are matters to attend to, and a potential lead on the assassin which must be followed up on. I will speak to the people properly when I return. In the mean time, however, I have a task for you." The queen turned towards Kaini "Of all the subejects in my kingdom, none are capable of speaking with the same spirit and passion as you are Kaini. Make use of the public address system, and calm the masses. Tell them the truth, and tell them that all is well. "

With her orders given, the matter was closed. Those who disagreed might gripe, but Lorelei had made her command, so there was little they could do but follow along, however half heartedly. Taking a detour only to collect the knife, so she could deliver it to those better suited to tracking down whoever was behind it, Lorelei departed for the surface, and the jet waiting for her.

Renee Richards
HP : 2
Condition : weirded out

As Renee works away in her workshop, the entire building shakes violently, half of her experiments fall off their respective shelves or pedestals, but in an instant the rubber woman stretches out into a giant blanket catching everything before they break or shatter.
Preston runs to the window, "There's a truck on fire outside! Is that Green Lantern?"

Renee stretches from the neck to see what Preston was talking about. There was a truck on fire outside the workshop - plus a lot more further away. And a few cars flipped over or on their sides !

Doing some quick calculations in her head, she figured there must have been a very big explosion nearby to make the whole building shake like that, and all the devastation outside was due to the blast's shockwave.
Which means that must have been one HUGE explosion.

She turned on the radio to listen for news - there had been an explosion. A tanker truck full of a biohazardous material had exploded, and was releasing thick, purple smoke.

A few heroes had already shown up - Green Latern, Cold Iron, and Spider Woman.

"Why was a tanker truck full of biohazardous materials going through a heavily populated area ?" she wondered to herself, recalling all the chemical safety courses she had to pass before she was allowed to work in her father's lab (without invoking the ire of OSHA and Child Protection Services), "The proper way to deal with such things is to haul very small amounts to a collection facility, to be dealt with there. So either someone was trying to save a few bucks by ignoring federal law, or this was some sort of attack. Can't be sure until I know more ... "

"Well, it looks like it's hero time !" she said to Preston as she grabbed the fire extinguisher and a first aid kit from their respective cabinets on the wall, "If any of the air quality alarms go off, hit that big red 'Emergency Vent' button and close all the doors. The emergency respirators are in the safety cabinet next to the door if things get that bad."

"Why do you even have that kind of safety equipment ?" he asked.

"Federal regulations." she replied with a shrug, "EVERYONE who works with certain class IV chemicals must have at least a few face shields, safety goggles, face masks and respirators on hand, or face some heavy fees and a suspension of their license to use those chemicals."

Moments later, she was outside, looking around to reassess what needed to be done. It looked like there was at least one person in that burning truck, so that was the highest priority.

She doused the truck with the extinguisher, then checked on the driver. It was usually a bad idea to move someone with a potential neck injury, but the risk of getting caught in the fire still spreading elsewhere was too great.

So she carefully immobilized his head by wrapping her arm around his neck to act as a brace before carefully lifting him out of the truck and moving him to the safest place she could think of - inside her workshop.
Once inside, she improvised a more effective neck brace before heading back outside to help any other victims.

"What fresh Hell is this ?!" she exclaimed once she noticed some people dropping to their knees, then turning into purple mini-Hulks.

"Why do I get the feeling that A.I.M. is somehow behind this ?" she said to herself through gritted teeth, realizing that even ONE mini-hulk represented a greater danger than all the currently burning fires combined.

And there was a whole GROUP of them over there by a cargo van.

"Say - that looks like Spider Woman !" Renee noted, recalling everything she'd read about her from the Daily Bugle (but not quite believing any of it, having had some experience with the press), "And it looks like she's going to be having a really bad day !

There MUST be something that I can do to help !"
Renee thought to herself, realizing full well that very people in the world have the strength or toughness to go toe-to-toe with someone like the Hulk.

These may be smaller versions, and so probably not as tough or as strong, but still a major league threat.

Plus the fact that these are essentially innocent victims - until just a few moments ago, they were mere civilians. So lethal force is off the table.

She thought of a few inventions that might work, but they would take far too long to build, even if jury-rigged.

Then she realized she was probably over-thinking the problem. As usual. Thanks to her powers, she was highly resistant to bludgeoning damage - like that done by punches and having heavy things thrown at you.

And she could redirect physical damage right back at its source.

And physical damage is all they got ! And they may not be smart enough to figure out that throwing punches at someone as elastic as rubber is not a very good idea !

So, perversely, the best strategy was no strategy at all. Just a simple-minded beat down.

"Well, might as well get this over with !" she said to herself as she brazenly strolled over.

Using Full Defense so her Deflect ability can be used if needed.

"That corresponds to my orders," the agreeable bot assures Cold Iron.

Elsewhere...
"Goldie?"
"S'up SKeets?"
"The gravel pit I gave you coordinates to... it's too far away. At top speeds it will take you at least 45 minutes to get there and back... and you're needed here." In the corner of the Bluestar visor, a small video readout showed the civilians being transformed into purple hulks.
"Holy Henry Winkler... Oh man. Uhm... what if I'd rather be occupied for about 45 minutes?"
"Well, you were seen arriving. Questions about where you went could mar your image. Besides, as I said, you're needed here. There should be a rooftop swimming pool a few hundred yards south by southwest of your current position. A few tons of chlorinated water should neutralize that gas, then you can get back here and help out."
"Alright... alright. I'm on it."

Goldie gained a bit more altitude, and looked. Sure enough, she could see a swimming pool. Some executive was going to have to skip his afternoon laps...
