I was talking with a friend of mine about the new Thundercats show and I decided that when I come over to his place in a month I'd run (and his regular group) a Thundercats game.
And so, I took out my notepad (that is notepad.exe) and opened my 3rd edition book, as I was planning to stat out the characters from the show. And I realized ... I had no clue where to start.
And so I started to make some statements about the setting, and the characters.
The first being that I should probably ignore the Sword of Omens with the Eye of Thundera and the Spirit Stone, at least to put the characters in comparison to each other.
The second thing I thought about is that while there's lots of Animals in the new show. None of them are really more than humans with masks. (Minor exceptions withheld.) The perceived personality of the race showed through in some characters, but that's it.
Then, just for the sake of argument, I assumed that the adult (if you can call them that) characters of the show are PL 8. That sounds decent and solid. Mumm-Ra is probably around PL12. That seems to fit, and is collaborated by the Master Villain bit from the Game Master's Guide.
So, with that done, I thought, now it's time to go put numbers to it.
****
And that was where I drew nothing but blanks. Sure, I could see who was better, but on what scale....
And now my question comes to the rest of the people...
How does one put a character from a show to an attribute in M&M, to the point where such a character could be an NPC in a game. Of roughly the same level as one of the PC's. (Or if I wanted. to let the players play the Cats) ?
That's where I ended up being stuck.
