Yup, and then she got pregnant- giving us a tall, buxom, leather clad, nearly-nude, long-haired PREGNANT evil Hell Queen, because they were like "hey- how can we add MORE fetishes to this character" HHAHAHAHAHAHA I MEAN WHO ACTUALLY HAS A FETISH FOR THAT AM I RIGHT GUYS?

Regarding the Power Levels at the upper-tier guys, I realize that the PLs can be adjusted either way much more easily than lower-level guys. Thor in the Walt Simonson years seemed a bit less powerful than he is today (as is true with many guys from the '80s before Power Creep REALLY set in), and I pushed most of the other guys up in scale to match modern-day PL 14 Thor. Thus, anyone from the '80s can be knocked down a level or two at-will- the Midgard Serpent for example was super-tough, but could've been a PL 15 in the '80s (and may've not increased in power today- I just wanted him to match up better with the Godzilla-type Kaiju, since he's bigger than any of them). Skyfathers could be less than the levels I'm statting them at as well. I just want to keep everyone relative to each other- that's more important than defining particular PLs for anyone anyways :).

-Malekith is a fourth-tier Asgardian loser character who nearly plunged the Earth into an eternal winter after The Casket of Ancient Winters was destroyed. I find him rather goofy-looking and uninteresting ("oh, look! Another immortal Asgardian shapeshifting sorceror!"), though it was funny how he got killed by his own former minion, Kurse. He's essentially a PL 12 Mystic (he once got the drop of Loki, beat him up, and switched their appearances). He has your standard Magic Stuff, but doesn't really get enough play for an extended set of abilities. He's quite adept at changing the appearances of others, though.

Defenses:
Dodge +10 (DC 20), Parry +12 (DC 22), Toughness +17 (+21 Force Field), Fortitude +17, Will +15

Complications:
Motivation (Protection of Asgard)
Motivation (Spying on Thor's Love Life)- Odin doesn't like it when Thor dallies with the mortals, if you know what I mean. He'd prefer it if his son would stick with Sif in the long-term.
Enemy (Surtur, Loki, Ymir, Karnilla, Malekith)- To the enemies of Asgard, Odin is the chief guy to take out.
Weakness (The Odinsleep)- Odin is prone to long, LONG naps in order to restore his power. His aging has taken it's toll on him.

Total: Abilities: 134 / Skills: 68--34 / Advantages: 45 / Powers: 219 / Defenses: 17 (449)

-Odin is kind of a weird figure in the "Thor" books- despite being a mostly-benevolent King to his people, and a defender against MUCH worse threats, Odin is quite the prick. He slept around on Frigga to produce Thor with Gaea the Earth Mother (Frigga apparently... doesn't mind, I guess), frequently punishes Thor for "pride" and imagined slights, tries to break him up with mortal women, and usually doesn't even bother to help his son. No wonder Loki eventually betrayed him. He's still a bit better than Captain Crazypants Zeus, but not by much. I mean, he hates it when Thor spends too much time on Midgard, but HE BANGED THE GODDESS OF THE EARTH SO THOR WOULD BE PART OF BOTH WORLDS.

-There are assorted common storylines in Thor books involving Odin- he punishes Thor like a douchebag, calling him back or rewarding him only when he saves the day (productive but manipulative). He dies (it's happened three times so far, and at one point was supposed to end the cycle of Ragnarok- which was at least one Ragnarok ago. Like I said before, comics does this A LOT). He fights some uber-menace all by himself once all else fails. That sort of thing.

-Odin is equal in power to Zeus of the Olympians, despite having more physical drawbacks- he requires the Odinsleep, can noticeably become tired, and like all Asgardians, he ISN'T actually Immortal- just love-lived. His "Odinpower" can manifest itself in some CRAZY ways, including one-shot events like stopping time, teleporting the ENTIRE HUMAN RACE somewhere else (effectively a massive Area Affects Others Teleport to an astonishing degree), turning an entire race into one being, controlling the lifeforce of all of Asgard to place them into The Destroyer, and more. To these ends, I gave him the highest Variable Power of any God, Skyfather or otherwise. His power is such that he can hold his own against Dormammu for a length of time, probably take on Mephisto, and even take on Galactus mano-a-mano for a while. He once knocked around The Silver Surfer and Thanos simultaneously, which is NOT easy. He's also taken out Annihilus, one-hit-killed Hela

-Heck, PL 17 almost seems like it's not covering it, even though it makes sense given most of Odin's accomplishments. A fight between him and Seth apparently once shook the foundations of the Multiverse and shattered "Countless galaxies", which I chalk up to a writer being up his own butt with Power-Geeking at it's highest levels, going "ohhhhhHHHHHHHHHHH SO POWERFUL!!!", because really, how could Odin EVER be in danger if he was really that powerful (yeah OK he's usually holding back the full Odinpower, but come on- this is beyond Galactus or the Celestials, both of whom would own Odin)? I prefer to think of him using lots of Variable (technically he doesn't need a lot of Alt-Effects with that much of it, but they cover a wider breadth than Variable typically allows, and it's not like I was aiming to scrimp on points here), and tons of Ritualist, along with the occasional temporary boosts in power. Zeus may be among the most powerful beings in the world, but my money would be on the more versatile, and nastier Odin.

That is a really powerful Odin. He is a jerk though. I would love to see Thor put a beat down on him sometime. Heck I would even settle for Loki putting a beat down on him.

-Criminy, now THIS is an overly-complex character! Debuting first as Brunnhilde, the Samantha Parrington persona came into things, and there was a bunch of switching around, as Valkyrie's mind could be transplanted into the bodies of various women over the years. A major character in The Defenders, pretty much the "this is where D-League heroes go when they can't make The Avengers" book of Marvel's '70s & '80s (that kind of concept tends to invite the most inventive writing, and gain the most vocal kind of fans, but in small numbers), she did all KINDS of stuff, switching identities, gaining and losing new powers, etc. So I'm absolutely confused as to where one ends and the other beings- even the Annotated Appendix to the Marvel Universe has a dozen Defenders appearances of "normal" Brunnhilde, and a hundred of the "Samantha" Valkyrie, as if they're different people (but with one personality in the other), but nobody around her seems to ask what's up... I'm so confused.

-She's been a very minor over the years, recently showing up again because Frank Cho was drawing Marvel stuff, and there's nothing he likes more than thickly-muscled women with giant knockers who love to kick some ass. Who knows which body is being used this time? Ed Brubaker at least says the one that's appeared in his "Secret Avengers" is Brunnhilde, so this build represents that one the most.

-Valkyrie's a PL 11, though she's one of those classic pains in the ass characters, because she uses a super-sharp Sword, PLUS is super-strong normally, AND is supposed to be a really good fighter, which adds up to a PL 12 or something using M&M's system. I had a PL 10 Valkyrie, but she's supposed to be at least as good as Sif, if not better, so PL 11 it is- I had to make her a +12 Unarmed, +10 Armed character with +10 normal strength, able to be shifted with a ton of Combat Advantages, to make up the difference, because I've never seen Valkyrie portrayed as a supreme threat like a PL 11 theoretically should be. I mean, who has she beaten than a PL 10 couldn't? Nobody, by my recollection- she threatens people like Hawkeye, and might give Spider-Man some trouble. She has a set of assorted minor powers, such as Detecting and Foreboding Death, a Quick Changing Sword that's normally invisible, and a Flying Horse Minion (the same Aragorn that Black Knight used- he gave him to Val when he left The Defenders).

Motivation (Destroying The Abberations)- And by "Abberations" I mean "Anyone who isn't a Frost Giant". Ymir seeks the destruction of all life save his own.
Enemy (Odin)

Total: Abilities: 6 / Skills: 12--6 / Advantages: 16 / Powers: 294 / Defenses: 40 (362)

-Ymir is one of those "Bogeyman" characters in the Marvel books, in that he VERY rarely makes appearances, because an invasion from him is effectively an Extinction Level Event for the human race if crap goes wrong. Like most Elder God-types, he lives in another dimension, and can very rarely make incursions into our realm. In Norse Mythology, Ymir is the forebear of all Jotun (Giants), and Odin, Vili & Ve made Midgard from his desecrated corpse (his blood became the oceans, because the Norsemen were METAL like that).

-Okay, after checking some pictures online and cribbing from Ilethryl Knight's nifty builds, I've got an idea of what this guy's capable of- he's a single notch higher than ODIN, making him among the most powerful beings in all creation- he & Surtur are the equivalent of Elder Gods or Demon Lords, capable of theoretically laying waste to the entire world. It ain't just a bluff with these guys, either- Ymir could handily wipe out the entire Avengers, Fantastic Four & X-Men at once, and the most reliable method of defeating him is Interdimensional Teleportation. Like most Giants above a certain size, he can dish out Area Attack damage, in addition to a host of Cold-based abilities, like a frightening Aura and a Thrown Damage Club (with the new Flaw that he has to kinda go get it once tossed). He's PL 18 offensively (meaning that he can one-punch anyone short of a Skyfather), and PL 16 defensively (meaning he's still better than most- he'd have ZERO Dodge & Parry, except you can pass it off as glancing blows and the like, otherwise nothing would EVER hurt him if I skewed him any further towards Toughness- a full-on Power Attacking Thor only does +23 Damage, and that's four points short as it is).

Yay! Valkyrie!

Basically to simplify, the Valkyrie of today is NOT Samantha Parrington, as you noted, but Brunhilde the Asgardian. The Valkyrie from the 70's Defenders was the Barbara Norris version, but she too, is not today's Valkyrie. Brunhilde the Asgardian demi-goddess of today is (back) in possession of her body and mind, making her the most powerful of any of the 3 versions. She is strong enough to lift 45 tons.

As far as who the Valkyrie has fought, I know the weaker Barbara version fought Namor (and was defeated), only held off the Executioner for a few panels before needing to be rescued, stood up to the Hulk on numerous occasions only to be knocked down (and sometimes out), and she shattered the Avengers front door and took it to Wonder Man before he started to pound her. She did defeat Power Princess (Zarda)! As the complete Brunhilde version, I can only think of when she stabbed the Red Hulk with Dragonfang--although she herself couldn't compete with him. Well, maybe she needs a power upgrade!

Phrasing! Sorry my mind is now officially out of the gutter, at least for the moment... :D

Great Norse builds. The Norse are one of my favorite mythologies to read about, so much so that I wrote a paper about their world creation mythos for my Comparative Religion class 8). As for Balder, I haven't read that many comics that he appears in, but I did really like how he was portrayed in J. Michael Straczynski's run on Thor.
A little rudeness and disrespect can elevate a meaningless interaction to a battle of wills and add drama to an otherwise dull day.

Complications:
Motivation (Bathing the Nine Realms in Flame)- Surtur wants to burn the crap out of everything in the world. If his sword Twilight touches the Eternal Flame (usually kept protected in Asgard), then the jig is up- the world ends.
Enemy (Odin)
Weakness (Intense Cold)- Cold-Based Attacks do extra damage, or have extra effect.

Total: Abilities: 18 / Skills: 30--15 / Advantages: 28 / Powers: 429 / Defenses: 39 (529)

-Surtur is the "Great Destroyer" of Norse Mythology, bursting out of Muspelheim at Ragnarok, bathing the Earth in flames, and destroying everything in a battle with Frey. In Marvel Comics, he's been used a few times as an Elder God-like being who sits in his own dimension, and only makes the occasional excursion into the main reality, where his entrance is akin to armageddon. This guy basically walked into Asgard with ease- his army of minions invaded Manhattan, requiring the entirety of Asgard, Beta-Ray Bill, The Avengers and the American military (a nice nod to the fact that the army wouldn't just sit there on it's ass or job needlessly) to fight them. Sure, Heimdall did the "You Shall NOT PASS!" thing... Surtur promptly passed (with a single blow, no less). Surtur then kicked Thor's ass, then Odin's. It was only Loki who hid the Eternal Flame (the Plot Macguffin that would have allowed Surtur to end the world), and after that, it was multiple comebacks, returns from certain defeat, and a final Limit Break from Odin that threw he & Surtur into Muspelheim and ended the threat. He's returned a couple times, but never in quite so big a manner.

-Surtur is tough to figure out, as he's directly shown to be superior to Odin, Vili & Ve in their backstory (even their combined form)- the latter two died holding him back in their first battle. When boosted by proximity to The Eternal Flame, he holds back Odin's full power, allowing him to easily defeat any one of his adversaries- it takes Odin (PL 16-17), Thor (PL 13-14) & Loki (PL 13-14) COMBINED to hold him off, and even then they have to basically play a dozen Hero Points amongst them, heal from their wounds while another holds Surtur temporarily off, and get really, REALLY lucky. This means that Surtur, at base form, is more powerful than Odin, and WAAAAAAYYYY tougher than Thor.

-Of further note are his powers- he's basically a Big Strong Ass-Kicker (his overall height isn't SO important, but it's said to be 1,000 feet- not that he ever looks like that on-panel, or is kept consistent. His end stats are more important anyways), doing tons of damage, hitting Area Attacks, and even hitting guys with Twilight, his uber-sword. However, Twilight also possesses various magical abilities- just TOUCHING IT or channeling it's power allows Loki to neutralize the Asgardian Immunity to Disease, and he can hold off Odin's full Odinpower as well- this is effectively Variable Power at high levels, as well as an Aura Area Affliction on guys' magical powers. In other words- you are STRAIGHT F***ED if you fight Surtur in an even battle. PL 18 is roughly equivalent to an Elder God- higher than a Skyfather, but not so high that you're invincible.

Surter (PL 18), Ymir (PL 18), Odin (PL 17), The Midgard Serpent (PL 16), Hela (PL 14), Fenris (PL 14), Loki (PL 14 [wow isn't he potent all of his kids can challenge Thor it must be the giant in him 8) ])....O my God!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is some truly impressive work! Thank U for all of your efforts. I have a question. How powerful would you say Thor was when he possessed the Odinforce and the Magic of the Runes? And Hercules when he was powered up the food/drink of the Gods combo?

I dunno- depends on what Thor did. Thor powered by Odinforce would likely be the same as Odin (PL 17), unless he was supposed to be tougher somehow. Herc with his Uber-Godliness (from when he fought the Chaos King) is a step beyond even SKYFATHER status, probably hitting PL 19-20.

P.S. Here's the rest of the Asgardians of note:

    Other Asgardians:
Idunn (keeper of the Golden Apples that keep the Norse Gods young)
Hoder (blind brother of Balder who was tricked into shooting and killing him in the myths. Naturally, Loki did the tricking)
Hermod (ultra-speedy Messenger of the Gods)
Tyr (God of War, can challenge Thor)
Sigyn (Goddess of Fidelity- the wife of Loki via his deception, she nonetheless stuck with him out of duty)
    Volla (Prophetic Goddess)
Vidar (Son of Odin & a Storm Giantess, Vidar was 10 feet tall and once used a weapon similar in power to Mjolnir. He was killed in a battle against Giants & Trolls)
Frey (Powerful God using a near-Mjolnir-level Sword that can fight on it's own when unsheathed. He also has high levels of mystical might)

-Gaea is the Earth Mother of various mythologies, and given much props in Marvel (she's the mother of Thor as well), despite not showing up very often. It was her who helped from The Young Gods (a "big story idea that didn't really turn into anything" from the '80s) that convinced The Celestials not to blow up the planet and start over, though she's no one-note heroine- she's tried to kill her Greek Children on multiple occasions, birthing several new generations to wipe them out. She basically has tons and tons of Alt-Effects based around Elemental Control, making her essentially an Uber-version of Storm, Magma & Thor, in addition to possessing Healing powers beyond anyone else on Earth's. At PL 17, she can take on a Skyfather and last, but she's never been really the type to throw down in Immortal Kombat or nothin'.

-Notable Aliases: A'akuluujjusi (Inuit), Aditi (Hindi), Akka (Finnish), Ala (Yoruba), Ale (Vodu), Ammavaru (Vedic), Armaiti (Zoroastrian), Asase Ya, Cihuacoatl (Aztec), Citlalicue (Olmec), Coatlique (Aztec), Danu (Celtic), Dilga (Aboriginal), Eje, Eithinoha (Iroquois), Erce (Russian), Great Mother, Hou-Tou (Chinese), Ilmatar (Finnish), Izanami (Japanese), Jorde (Norse), Ki (Mesopotamian), Mother Earth & Mother Nature, Nana (Dahomey), Nana Buluku, Neith (Egyptian), Nertha (German), Ninhursag (Sumerian), Nokomis (Algonquin), Nungeena (Aboriginal), Otuken, Pachamama (Incan), Papa (Hawai'i), Papaptauanuku (Oceanic), Prakriti (Brahmanic), Umay, Vaat (Siberrian/Mongolian), Yer, Yin (Chinese), Rangi (Oceanic)

Actually in many representation of Gaea over the centuries she was portraied as quite hot. Granted it was probably more a MILF effect than anything else.

Wow a Gaea build. Very nice. I know I seen in a Defender's comic as well as the Marvel Handbooks that she can grow to 30 feet in height or so. Grant you that could always be a power stunt. I remember she treated Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer, Hulk and Sub Mariner like they were chumps. They couldn't hurt her.
Really cool Surtur and Ymir. I never knew about the fingers into serpent s power. Always learn something from looking at your builds and especially your comments. I really look forward to your cosmic builds.
