The Atomic Brain

PL:
16 (254pp)

Abilities: STR: 0 [30] (+10) DEX: 0 [10] (+0) CON: -- (+0) INT: 30 (+10) WIS: 12 (+1) CHA: 16 (+3)

Skills: Craft [Chemical] 12 (+22), Craft [Electronic] 12 (+22), Craft [Mechanical] 12 (+22), Disable Device 12 (+22), Intimidate 16 (+19), Knowledge [Technology] 12 (+22), Sense Motive 12 (+13)

Feats: Attack Focus [Melee] (8), Eidetic Memory, Equipment (5), Fearsome Presence (6) [DC 16; 30ft.], Inventor, Master Plan, Sidekick (26), Startle

Powers: Radiation Control 20 (Alternate Powers: Drain Constitution 13 (Extras: Ranged, Disease), Disintegration 10; Power Feats: Accurate; 43pp), Mind Shield 6 (6pp), Immunity 30 (All Fortitude Effects; 30pp), Device 18 [Armored Body - Enhanced Strength 30, Enhanced Dexterity 10, Protection 20 (Extra: Impervious [+1] 15), Flight 6; Attack Specialization [Radiation] (3); 72pp]

Combat: Attack +4 (+12 Melee, +12 Radiation Blast) [Unarmed +10, Radiation Blast +20] Defense 20 (15 flat-footed) Init +0

Saves: Toughness +20 (15 Impervious) (20 flat-footed) Fortitude +NA Reflex +0 Will +12 (+18 vs. Mental)

Equipment: Island HQ [Size: Awesome; Toughness: 20; Features: Communications, Computer, Defense System, Dock, Fire Prevention System, Hanger, Holding Cells, Isolated, Laboratory, Power System, Security System, Workshop; 22ep]

Drawback: Involuntary Transformation [When Armor is disabled; Uncommon Occurrence, Major Intensity; 5pp]

Abilities -2 + Skills 22 (88 Ranks) + Feats 49 + Powers 151 + Combat 28 + Saves 11 – Drawbacks 5 = 254pp

 Simply put The Atomic Brain is a MONSTER. His Radiation Blast can floor even the hardiest foes. It takes a skilled foe to hit him, and his armor will protect him from all but the most vicious of attacks. His skills also make him the consummate mastermind villain, he can build anything and point it where it can do the most damage. He has a sidekick…

Singularity
PL:
10 (130pp)
Abilities: STR: 10 [34] (+12) DEX: 10 (+0) CON: 18 [30] (+10) INT: 08 (-1) WIS: 06 (-2) CHA: 08 (-1)
Skills: Escape Artist 1 (+1), Intimidate 15 (+18.)
Feats: All-Out Attack, Attack Focus [Melee] (5), Chokehold, Improved Grab, Improved Grapple, Improved Pin, Power Attack
Powers: Dazzle +10 (Extras: Burst Area [+1]; Flaws: Limited – Focused on Self [-1]; 20pp), Growth 12 (+24 Strength, +12 Constitution, Huge Size, 48pp), Immunity 1 (own Powers), Super Strength 3 (Power Feat: Ground Strike; 7pp)
Combat: Attack +3 (+8 Melee) [Unarmed +12] Defense 20 (14 flat-footed) Init +0
Saves: Toughness +10 (10 flat-footed) Fortitude +15 Reflex +0 Will -2
Abilities 0 + Skills 4 (16 Ranks) + Feats 10 + Powers 76 + Combat 34 + Saves 5 – Drawbacks 0 = 130

 Despite all of the Brain’s overwhelming power he does have a few weaknesses. In combat he doesn’t have a lot of options, he’s either going to slam you, blast you, or try to nuke you with radiation sickness, knowing his game plan you can work up a defense. He’s slower than molasses and if you can trash his armor he’s out of the fight entirely.

:!: Update: 8/18/06 :!:

Updated the Brain. He’s now a beefier PL 16, and comes in at a nasty 254pp. I used a bit of the Jar in the brain for a base of what he should be when relieved of his armor. I also expressed his reliance on the armor by making it a drawback.

Boy Toy

PL:
10 (135pp)

Abilities: STR: 28 (+9) DEX: 12 (+1) CON: -- (--) INT: -- (--) WIS: 10 (+0) CHA: 1 (-5)

Skills: Drive 15 (+16), Notice 10 (+10), Pilot 15 (+16)

Feats: Move by Action

Powers: Immunity 30 (All Fortitude Effects; 30pp), Obscure [Visual Senses] 6 (12pp), Morph 8 (Vehicles; Power Feats: Metamorph (3); 11pp), Blast 9 (Extra: Explosion Area [+1]; Alternate Powers: Auto-Fire Blast 9; 28pp), Toughness 10 (10pp)

Combat: Attack +11 [Unarmed +9, Onboard Missiles +9, Onboard Machine Guns +9] Defense 20 (15 flat-footed) Init +1

Saves: Toughness +10 (10 flat-footed) Fortitude NA Reflex +1 Will +0

Abilities -9 + Skills 10 (40 Ranks) + Feats 1 + Powers 91 + Combat 42 + Saves 0 – Drawbacks 0 = 135

 The first of the Clique. Boy Toy is a pretty tough customer. His obscure and blasts powers operate regardless of his form thereby making any vehicle he turns into a heavily armed monster. I hope that the remainder of the Clique won’t have Boy Toy’s raw power. Boy Toy’s major weakness is that he can’t think independently and thus will likely use very predictable tactics in battle. Most of the time the heroes won’t know they’re fighting boy toy… they will be angry about the heavily armed van the Clique is using as a getaway vehicle though.

:!: Coming Up :!:

The Crush
Jawbreaker
The Other Woman
Pixie
Wallflower

(and then I'm going to ignore any calls for MEta-4 characters for a little while.)

And then Rogue

Re: MDSnowman's Big Thread of 2e Conversions

Postby Michael Tree » Mon Oct 03, 2005 7:08 am

Wolverine looks good! I'd probably give him more than 8 ranks in Notice and 10 ranks in Intimidate (Wolvie is one of the few characters that probably warrants a full 15 ranks in intimidate) but otherwise a good reflection of the character.
MDSnowman wrote:  I didn’t make any trade-offs as I felt he was a pretty balanced character. However I purposely kept the damage on his claws under the cap. To unlock his full potential for damage he needs to activate his Rage ability which he can only do once per day.

I don't have the book yet so... Is the bonus given by rage limited by the PL, or is it a situational bonus like power attack that can go above PL damage? If the latter, it's probably worth buying up his damage to +10. He can shred Sentinels, after all, and even if he can penetrate their Impervious protection they still have very high toughness saves.

What does the Mighty extra do on Strike?

:!: Rage Gives a Bonus to strength and Fortitude and Willpower saves. You maximum save bons and strength are still limited by the PL cap. The would assume that also means that any extra damage gained due to a rage is also limited by the PL cap.

:!: Logan is very tightly packed as far as skills go. I gave him all the feats and powers that I thought he required. Regeneration got a little pricy, but I'll stand by my choices. As it is with his extended and accurate scent he can identify people by smell [including their exact location] at ten times the distance a normal person can smell.

:!: As for Logan vs. Sentinels I look at it like this. Say your average sentinel has 12 ranks of impervious protection. Logan's penetrating attack lowers that to 5 ranks in impervious protection before the sentinel makes its toughness save, meaning the +7 claws dont have to worry about it. So the impervious protection would only be an issue if Logan has a less powerful attack. And if he really wants to lay one out he'll power attack on it.

:!: The mighty extra allows him to add his strength bonus to the damage he does from strike.

I think my reply must have come across as more critical than I intended. They were more nitpicks, or saying how I would do it a bit differently, than anything negative about your design. I look forward to seeing more.

With the Mighty extra, how does that interact with extras on the strike power? If you have Strike 5 (Mighty, Penetrating, Autofire 3) and Strength 20, do you have an effective Strike 10 with all those extras, do you have to buy them separately, or something else?

Nope didn't come across as critical, just as someone who didn't have the book yet. Don't sweat it.

Autofire would operate normally, as would mighty. You would have a +10 attack, but in that setup you only have penetrating of 5. You can spend up to 5 more points to to have him penetrate up to 10 ranks of impervious protection (meaning you provoke a save from badies with up to 20 ranks in impervious protection)

The Crush

PL:
10 (150 pp)

Abilities: STR: 10 (+0) DEX: 16 (+3) CON: 10 (+0) INT: 12 (+1) WIS: 08 (-1) CHA: 24 [30] (+10)

Skills: Bluff 7 (+17/25), Computers 5 (+6), Diplomacy 7 (+17/+25), Notice 8 (+7), Sense Motive 5 (+4)

Feats: Attack Focus: Ranged (4), Attractive (2), Dodge Focus (4), Equipment (5), Leadership, Taunt

Powers: Drain [Strength and Wisdom] 10 (Extra: Area [Cloud] [+1], Flaws: Limited- Only Effects men [-1]; 20pp), Enhanced Charisma 6 (6pp), Mind Control 10 (Flaw: Limited- Only Effects Men [-1]; AP: Emotion Control – Love; 11pp), Device 2 [Designer Body Armor – Protection 5, Immunity 5 (Fire); 8pp]

Combat: Attack +6 (+10 Ranged) [Unarmed +0, Blaster Pistol +5] Defense 24 (15 flat-footed) Init +3

Saves: Toughness +6 (6 flat-footed) Fortitude +4 Reflex +7 Will +3

Equipment: Blaster Pistol [+5 Damage; 10ep], Sky Scrapper Base [Size: Large; Toughness: 10; Features: Communications, Computer, Defense System, Fire Prevention System, Gym, Living Space, Power System, Pool; 12ep]

Abilities 20 + Skills 10 (40 Ranks) + Feats 27 + Powers 45 + Combat 32 + Saves 16 – Drawbacks 0 = 150

 Finally I make a character who comes in around 15 pp/ PL. Second Edition lets you just use PL as a cap, but it does still suggest 15 pp per level. You’ll see the rest Clique with the same Designer Body Armor device. The Crush’s powers can be brutal, especially if she hits you with the Drain first. Then with a much lower Wisdom you’re wide open for her mind control… heck she could turn you into drooling fan boy much more easily.

Abilities 22 + Skills 20 (80 Ranks) + Feats 17 + Powers 64 + Combat 16 + Saves 11 – Drawbacks 0 =150pp

 Here we have Meta-4’s iconic Gadgeteer. And she certainly doesn’t lack for personality. She’s cute, she’s perky, and she’s as smart as Reed Richards. If you dig around enough elsewhere you’ll learn that Gimmick isn’t human, but she’s not a robot either, she’s a bio-android. To that end I gave her low grade Data link, and mental quickness. And naturally she can reach into her purse and pull out any number of gadgets.
