DMAC's M&M Artwork (Dire Beaver!)

Postby DMAC » Sat Feb 18, 2006 12:49 pm

Hello, new to the forums. Hopefully I can't go wrong by posting these in the General section. :)

Some friends over on the Hoffman Studio forums are playing an online M&M game, and I thought it'd be fun to come up with designs for their characters. I'd love to hear what everybody thinks. I've had a lot of fun with these.

Spider Solitaire
(Sort of a Spider-Man/Nightwing cross.)
Image

Onus: Master of Gravity
(An alien gauntlet gives him control over the forces of gravity.)
Image

Gila The Man Lizard
(He's wearing his lucky undies. :) )
Image

Aopae (A.K.A. The Greek Grappler)
(A former Greek goddess turned superhero.)
Image

Phoenix
(Mystical hero with flight/fire-based powers.)
Image

My rough designs for Phoenix and another character named Black Shadow (ninja/martial artist).

Dmanc,

This is brilliant work. Well done mate. I especially like Onus, Gila, and Phoenix. Brilliant costume design and bloody top colouring.

Do you do most of this driectly on the PC, or do ya do the basics the old fashioned way, scan to PC and then ink/colour?

Holy robot monkeys of Galapagos!

These are fantastic. I really like the style - very clear, bold, and cartoonish (which, in the context and given the subject matter, is a good thing). Sort of like a less sterile/minimalist Timms.

I like the starscape on Onus' costume... though with that one, big hand, perhaps his name is Onan, master of...

Uh, never mind.

Gila's tighty whities are hilarious, and Pheonix just looks cool.

Is it my imagination, or has Aopae been oiled recently?

Nice stuff.

Ha! I don't know if you can really call Gila's costume design brilliant. :D

I pencil and ink on paper and then color in Photoshop.

No, that would be my imagination.

I have to say, there's alot of work in Gila. That shadow work on his scales must have taken forever to do DMAC.

Very nice stuff!

Although I think Aopae is going to run into that problem that the Silk Spectre was mentioning in Watchmen, of 'villains' *wanting* to be beaten up by her, especially if her fighting style involves 'grappling' and oil...

Wow. That's some fantastic artwork.

As someone incapable of more than daily comic strip level art I am insanely envious of your ability.

Please post some more!

Thanks, guys.

Gila took a little time, but I use a brush tipped marker in my inking which makes laying down "swooshy" marks for scales go much quicker. :)

I am a professional artist but don't get a chance to do much superhero work. There are a few more pieces on my site which can be found through the link in my signature.

I'll be sure to post any future pieces I do. I still have to do a finished Black Shadow piece and I might tackle some villains if I have a chance.
