The Art of Reebo Kesh - The Chemical Man

Post by ReeboKesh » Sun Jul 30, 2006 3:41 pm

Hey guys! Following in the footsteps of great artists like MancerBear, DMAC, Storn and Newbie_GM  I've finally decided to start my own Art Reeboot thread... get it Reebo-ot?!... er never-mind.

Anyhoo I'm starting off with a very 'cartoony' image of one of my favorite Marvel Comics characters, the ever lovable, blue-eyed, Thing!

This is only the beginning. My goal now is to get into some serious illustrating (read: paid work) so if anyone out there is looking to commission an artist for some superhero (or supervillian) work, drop me a pm.

Comments or critiques are always welcome.

IMAGE UPDATED After some helpful suggestions from DMAC and my buddies shinobi and rob_jedi I've added a little more depth to the Thing pic bringing him more into line with the style used for the Cricket and my previous pics. Thanks guys!

Thanks RoninArts.
More to come I promise.
I'm currently experimenting with styles for a webcomic covering my Story Hour.

Very nice style reebo, it would surely make an excelent animated series with that kind of designs.

If I may say so, I think the style that would perfectly fit in the Power and Responsability comic you're working on is the one in which you portraited the Cricket, on page 3 of your story hour thread, that's my 2 cents.

Greets!

Hey man, I like the line art, but the way you've shaded it in your color version really makes him look flat instead of helping to define the form. I did a quick recolor on the right to show what I mean.

Thanks DMAC. I appreciate any advice especially from a pro like yourself.

My buddy rob_jedi (Kid Light's player) already suggested it so I was planning on making changes tonight to the pic cause there's not enough shadow or light on him.

First off ReeboKesh I really LOVE your style. I'm a huge fan of the animated style you have going... It's more of a graphic design style and it's AWESOME.

I also love the coloring DMAC's got going.
DMAC - would you have the seperate layers of coloring and the shadows and highlights you made?
I'd love to see each layer to understand how you build up your coloring.

ReeboKesh do you plan on doing more?

Any originals?

Any Freedom City characters?

Do you do commissions?

I'm interested!

Glad to see it helped ReeboKesh. The new version is looking a lot more solid.

Unless I'm doing a lot of special effects stuff (like the magic effect on my Warforged necromancer piece), I tend to do all of my coloring on one layer set to "multiply" over my inks. I just lay down flat colors and then select them with the magic wand tool and add shading/highlights. It makes it a little tricky to make changes later on, but I don't like having to switch between layers all the time if I can avoid it.

Thanks DMAC I like the new look too. I may tweak him a little more over the weekend, got some other pieces I'm starting on.

Since Demongg asked about colouring I thought I'd mention a new technique I discovered which allows me to set several layers of colour and easily tweak or even change them AFTER I've coloured everything! Plus I can grab a big FAT brush and paint over a section without going outside the edges of the pic! Much cooler than my old system that made it harder to make changes. My new technique allows me to add or delete shadows and highlights easily.

I love that version of old mama Grimm's blue-eyed boy. It says 'Animated series' to me. That is a compliment, don't worry. I eagerly await more.

Hey guys! Got another one for ya!
Where would the Thing be without his little buddy, the prankster of the FF - The Human Torch!
Torch was my first attempt at colouring flame and my second attempt at maintaining that Animated style. Hope you guys like it! :D

Again, well done. If Marvel ever asks me for directions in regard to a Fantstic Four animated series you are the chap I would direct them to.
