Welcome to Capital City!

Postby Aventar » Sun Dec 16, 2007 6:55 pm

Capital City, the home of the bold, the free, the superpowered.

Capital City is the name and setting of the M&M campaign I'm gearing up to run. It's basically a homebrew but I'm tying it into Freedom City. As such I have 2 versions of my characters and Npcs, FC and non. As they are very similiar I'm posting the already tied in versions so that it's easier for people to use as is. Before I post the populace of Capital City a few notes on the city itself.

Capital City is essentially a twin to Freedom City as a home to super powered activity. Founded at the end of World War 2, the city promised to be the "Capital of a Bravce new world!" Turns out it was simply the capital of a new beggining of corruption and endless frauds. That is until the mid 50s when The American Icon made his home in Capital City, becoming it's resident hero. Quickly the cities fortunes turned around as America's sweetheart changed its image and cleaned up the corruption. This providence lasted until the late 90s when American Icon having started becoming more and more corporate and visiting the city less. The city started to lose its former glory as the city went unprotected trime and again as the American Icon was elsewhere making photo ops and autograph signings. It wasn't until 2004 when a new hero group calling themselves Rumble squad and taking a more aggressive stance appeared, that the city started towards its once glorius haven of heroes that it was. Sadly thats not how things actually go. At this point Capital City is at best a haven for superhero wannabes as there is enough crime to fight during this rebuilding process.

A few Notable personalities:

 (American) Icon
Trevor Lance was poor american soldier who was caught in the attacks on Pearl harbor during World War 2. Trevor survived due to his suddenly active Metagene (Further giving scientists "evidence" metagenes become active as a flight or fight reaction) saved his life by granting him paragonial superpowers. Over the years he became synonomous with superheroics and the american way. Fighting Nazi supersoldiers and mobsters at home his fame was only rivaled by the Centurion of Freedom City over the years. During this time he picked up a sidekick, a femme fatale calling herself American Shield. The two were succesful stopping many of the greatest villians of the time including the many epic boughts they had with AI's nemesis the villianous Dr. Armageddon. This lasted until the early 90s, when shortly after the Centurion's death during the Terminus invasion AI seemed to change and American Shield left the position of his sidekick changing her name to Lady Amazing and disapearing, reapearing later as a member of The Rumble Squad. Over the next few years American Icon changed even more drastically as he dropped the standard Red, White, and Blue opting for a sleek Blue and Black outfit and cutting his flowing blonde hair into a spiked sleek cut. He then became much more commercial opting to make movies and sign photos than save lives. He's still a big hit with people and one of, if not the most popular super being alive. However he has little to no fans in the superhero community save those few new supers who grew up watching his "Cheesy wanna be hero movies" as Lady Amazing says.

 Dr. Armageddon
Icon's nemesis and master villian of Capital City, the "good doctor" hails from time and parts unknown. Having been evidenced to have been alive and operating since man can walk he is rumored to have been the backing for every major organized crime since the Dark Agents. His mystical power and technical savvy has saved him from his enemies and allowed him to escape a failed plan more times than one could logically count. He is rumored to have his fingers in everything from Big business, mob crimes, the Yakuza, and even SHADOW. The doctor is such a manipulative planner that every plan has a backup to the extent that every failure is a win for him. His only actual loss was to the Centurion at the begining of the Terminus invasion as he allied himself with Omega. This turned out to be the only un fixable loss he had ever experienced and as the Centurion died he has no ability to recoup that loss. This he reminds Icon of everytime they meet and sources say Icon hates it.

Now a few notes on The characters so far:

 Icon thinks he's the greatest hero ever, and that includes Centurion. He wants to be better than Centurion so badly that he's lost his ideals. He's become a narcissist and media hound, wanting nothing more than to be considered the greatest Being alive, let alone hero. This of course causes much of the problems he has with real heroes as well as villians. To be truthful, he hasn't learned anything since becoming powered in 1941. He's still brash and arrogant, believing no longer in American superiority but in his own.

 Dr. Armageddon is to put simply a spirit elemental somewhat in the vein of Lady Liberty. He's the spirit of domination and Tyrranny and an analogue for the coming end of the world. In truth he has been "killed" over the years, but he just picks a new host and carries on as if he never lost a step. He's cruel and heartless, enjoying a subjects struggles as they die. The more pain and suffering the better.

Perhaps he should apply for a job at the White House, i'm sure he'd be highly qualified for the job. He'd fit right in. How about the office of Commerce or Secretary of Health and Human Services?

Oddly enough he applied, but they turned him down citing his efficient record and "over qualifications" :P

A note now on a few new technical developments. Namely the discovery of a nearly living crystalized metal called "Glorium". Glorium is sadly say my alternative to the Marvel universes Vibranium and Adamantium. The difference is Glorium (thats the unnoficial name, much like vibranium has a technical Vibro hydro maticulated blah blah name) has a psionic residence and some psions seem to think it has it's own living memory and thoughts. This makes the metal desperately sought after as weapons, armor, and vehicles crafted of it are not only faster, tougher, and more durable but can focus psions powers and various other untold uses.

I'm having a vision of Christopher Lee's first musical number from The Return of Captain Invincible for some reason ...

Chris Davies.

There exists a portal to an otherworldly dimension in Capital City, left over from a supervillian device back in the 60s. This world is only known as Balgavatopia and is the home to a race of fairy like beings known as the Frindels. These fey look closely human and have powers rooted in the elements. They share the pocket dimension with the evil warlike imps the Borgdaz. The two constantly fight and kill each other in an endless battle for dominance of the plane (its the size of Texas so as far as dimensions go its cramped). The portal is one of 5 across the world, the others being in Egypt, New Hampshire, Quebec, The South Pole, and Hollywood respectively. The one in Capital city is buried under an old 'Adult' movie theatre called Felicia's Flicks and is largely unknown to the populace. This isn't to say it's the only source of mystical activity in Capital city as Eldritch once estimated at least 7 other nexus points (gateways) exist within the city leading to seperate dimensions.

*Note* I'm kind of posting this as it comes up, and Have much more to post so there will sadly be little organization at this point, however I may fix it as time goes by OR edit my original post to be a sort of browsable index (Like so many talented people have done with Roll Call threads and the like)
